Οἱ οὖν Ἰουδαῖοι, ⸂ἐπεὶ παρασκευὴ ἦν, ἵνα μὴ μείνῃ ἐπὶ τοῦ σταυροῦ τὰ σώματα ἐν τῷ σαββάτῳ⸃, ἦν γὰρ μεγάλη ἡ ἡμέρα ἐκείνου τοῦ σαββάτου, ἠρώτησαν τὸν Πιλᾶτον ἵνα κατεαγῶσιν αὐτῶν τὰ σκέλη καὶ ἀρθῶσιν.
Era il giorno della Parascève e i Giudei, perché i corpi non rimanessero sulla croce durante il sabato — era infatti un giorno solenne quel sabato —, chiesero a Pilato che fossero spezzate loro le gambe e fossero portati via.
It was the day of Preparationⓘ, and the Jews, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross during the Sabbathⓘ — it was a solemnⓘ Sabbath —, asked Pilate to break their legsⓘ.

ἦλθον οὖν οἱ στρατιῶται, καὶ τοῦ μὲν πρώτου κατέαξαν τὰ σκέλη καὶ τοῦ ἄλλου τοῦ συσταυρωθέντος αὐτῷ·
Vennero dunque i soldati e spezzarono le gambe all'uno e all'altro che erano stati crocifissi insieme con lui.
The soldiers broke the legs of the two crucified with him.

ἐπὶ δὲ τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἐλθόντες, ὡς εἶδον ⸂ἤδη αὐτὸν⸃ τεθνηκότα, οὐ κατέαξαν αὐτοῦ τὰ σκέλη,
Venuti però da Gesù, vedendo che era già morto, non gli spezzarono le gambe,
But when they came to Jesus, seeing that he was already dead, they did not break his legsⓘ,

ἀλλ’ εἷς τῶν στρατιωτῶν λόγχῃ αὐτοῦ τὴν πλευρὰν ἔνυξεν, καὶ ⸂ἐξῆλθεν εὐθὺς⸃ αἷμα καὶ ὕδωρ.
ma uno dei soldati con una lancia gli colpì il fianco, e subito ne uscì sangue e acqua.
but one soldier pierced his side with a spear, and at once blood and water came outⓘ.

καὶ ὁ ἑωρακὼς μεμαρτύρηκεν, καὶ ἀληθινὴ ⸂αὐτοῦ ἐστιν⸃ ἡ μαρτυρία, καὶ ἐκεῖνος οἶδεν ὅτι ἀληθῆ λέγει, ἵνα ⸀καὶ ὑμεῖς ⸀πιστεύητε.
Chi ha visto ne dà testimonianza e la sua testimonianza è vera.
The one who has seen gives testimony, and his testimony is trueⓘ.

ἐγένετο γὰρ ταῦτα ἵνα ἡ γραφὴ πληρωθῇ· Ὀστοῦν οὐ συντριβήσεται ⸀αὐτοῦ.
Questo infatti avvenne perché si compisse la Scrittura: Non gli sarà spezzato alcun osso.
For the Scripture to be fulfilled: Not one of his bones shall be brokenⓘ.

καὶ πάλιν ἑτέρα γραφὴ λέγει· Ὄψονται εἰς ὃν ἐξεκέντησαν.
E un altro passo della Scrittura dice ancora: Volgeranno lo sguardo a colui che hanno trafitto.
And another passage: They shall look on him whom they have piercedⓘ.

Μετὰ ⸀δὲ ταῦτα ἠρώτησεν τὸν Πιλᾶτον Ἰωσὴφ ⸀ἀπὸ Ἁριμαθαίας, ὢν μαθητὴς τοῦ Ἰησοῦ κεκρυμμένος δὲ διὰ τὸν φόβον τῶν Ἰουδαίων, ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ· καὶ ἐπέτρεψεν ὁ Πιλᾶτος. ἦλθεν οὖν καὶ ἦρεν τὸ σῶμα ⸀αὐτοῦ.
Dopo questi fatti Giuseppe di Arimatea, che era discepolo di Gesù, ma di nascosto, per timore dei Giudei, chiese a Pilato di prendere il corpo di Gesù. Pilato lo concesse.
Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple in secret for fear of the Jewsⓘ, asked Pilate for the body.

ἦλθεν δὲ καὶ Νικόδημος, ὁ ἐλθὼν πρὸς ⸀αὐτὸν νυκτὸς τὸ πρῶτον, φέρων ⸀μίγμα σμύρνης καὶ ἀλόης ὡς λίτρας ἑκατόν.
Vi andò anche Nicodemo, portando una mistura di mirra e di aloe.
Nicodemusⓘ also came, with myrrh and aloes.

ἔλαβον οὖν τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ καὶ ἔδησαν ⸀αὐτὸ ὀθονίοις μετὰ τῶν ἀρωμάτων, καθὼς ἔθος ἐστὶν τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις ἐνταφιάζειν.
Essi presero allora il corpo di Gesù e lo avvolsero con teli, insieme ad aromi, come usano fare i Giudei per la sepoltura.
They wrapped the body with linen cloths and spices, as is the custom of the Jews for burialⓘ.

ἦν δὲ ἐν τῷ τόπῳ ὅπου ἐσταυρώθη κῆπος, καὶ ἐν τῷ κήπῳ μνημεῖον καινόν, ἐν ᾧ οὐδέπω οὐδεὶς ⸂ἦν τεθειμένος⸃·
Ora, nel luogo dove era stato crocifisso, vi era un giardino e nel giardino un sepolcro nuovo, nel quale nessuno era stato ancora posto.
In the place there was a gardenⓘ and a new tomb.

ἐκεῖ οὖν διὰ τὴν παρασκευὴν τῶν Ἰουδαίων, ὅτι ἐγγὺς ἦν τὸ μνημεῖον, ἔθηκαν τὸν Ἰησοῦν.
Là dunque, poiché era il giorno della Parascève dei Giudei e dato che il sepolcro era vicino, posero Gesù.
There they laid Jesus, because it was the Preparation and the tomb was near.
