GreekἜλεγεν οὖν ὁ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς τοὺς πεπιστευκότας αὐτῷ Ἰουδαίους· Ἐὰν ὑμεῖς μείνητε ἐν τῷ λόγῳ τῷ ἐμῷ, ἀληθῶς μαθηταί μού ἐστε,
Orthodox ReadingJesus therefore said to the ⓘ: «If you remain — if you persevere and dwell steadfastly — in my word (my ⓘ), accepting the yoke of my ⓘ as one accepts the yoke of heaven, truly my disciples ⓘ,

Greekκαὶ γνώσεσθε τὴν ἀλήθειαν, καὶ ἡ ἀλήθεια ἐλευθερώσει ὑμᾶς.
Orthodox Readingand you will know the truth (the ⓘ), and the truth will make you free, it will render you free with that interior freedom which the tradition binds to the study of the Torah, for there is no free man except the one who occupies himself with the Torah.»

Greekἀπεκρίθησαν πρὸς αὐτόν· Σπέρμα Ἀβραάμ ἐσμεν καὶ οὐδενὶ δεδουλεύκαμεν πώποτε· πῶς σὺ λέγεις ὅτι Ἐλεύθεροι γενήσεσθε;
Orthodox ReadingThey answered him: «We are ⓘ, and we have never been slaves to anyone in a spiritual sense: how do you say that we shall become free?»

Greekοἶδα ὅτι σπέρμα Ἀβραάμ ἐστε· ἀλλὰ ζητεῖτέ με ἀποκτεῖναι, ὅτι ὁ λόγος ὁ ἐμὸς οὐ χωρεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν.
Orthodox ReadingI know that you are the seed of Avraham by carnal descent: but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you, ⓘ in your heart.

Greekνῦν δὲ ζητεῖτέ με ἀποκτεῖναι, ἄνθρωπον ὃς τὴν ἀλήθειαν ὑμῖν λελάληκα ἣν ἤκουσα παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ· τοῦτο Ἀβραὰμ οὐκ ἐποίησεν.
Orthodox ReadingBut now you seek to kill me, a ⓘ who has told you the truth heard from God: this Avraham did not do, he never sought to kill the one who announced to him the divine word.

Greekὑμεῖς ποιεῖτε τὰ ἔργα τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν. εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Ἡμεῖς ἐκ πορνείας οὐ γεγεννήμεθα, ἕνα πατέρα ἔχομεν τὸν θεόν.

Greekεἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Εἰ ὁ θεὸς πατὴρ ὑμῶν ἦν, ἠγαπᾶτε ἂν ἐμέ, ἐγὼ γὰρ ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐξῆλθον καὶ ἥκω· οὐδὲ γὰρ ἀπ' ἐμαυτοῦ ἐλήλυθα, ἀλλ' ἐκεῖνός με ἀπέστειλεν.
Orthodox ReadingJesus said to them: «If God were your Father truly, ⓘ, for I indeed have come forth from God and I come to you; I have not come of myself by my own initiative, but that One sent me ⓘ, his plenipotentiary representative.»
