Τοσαῦτα δὲ αὐτοῦ σημεῖα πεποιηκότος ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν οὐκ ἐπίστευον εἰς αὐτόν,
Sebbene avesse compiuto segni così grandi davanti a loro, non credevano in lui,
Although he had performed signsⓘ so great before them, they did not believeⓘ in him,

ἵνα ὁ λόγος Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου πληρωθῇ ὃν εἶπεν· Κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσεν τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν; καὶ ὁ βραχίων κυρίου τίνι ἀπεκαλύφθη;
perché si compisse la parola detta dal profeta Isaia: Signore, chi ha creduto alla nostra parola? E la forza del Signore, a chi è stata rivelata?
so that might be fulfilledⓘ the word that the prophet Isaiah spokeⓘ: «Lordⓘ, who has believed our reportⓘ? And the arm of the Lordⓘ, to whom has it been revealedⓘ?».

διὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἠδύναντο πιστεύειν, ὅτι πάλιν εἶπεν Ἠσαΐας·
Per questo non potevano credere, poiché ancora Isaia disse:
For this reason they couldⓘ not believe, since Isaiah said again:

Τετύφλωκεν αὐτῶν τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς καὶ ἐπώρωσεν αὐτῶν τὴν καρδίαν, ἵνα μὴ ἴδωσιν τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς καὶ νοήσωσιν τῇ καρδίᾳ καὶ στραφῶσιν, καὶ ἰάσομαι αὐτούς.
Ha reso ciechi i loro occhi e duro il loro cuore, perché non vedano con gli occhi e non comprendano con il cuore e non si convertano, e io li guarisca!
«He has blindedⓘ their eyes and hardenedⓘ their heart, so that they may not see with the eyes and may not understandⓘ with the heartⓘ and may not turnⓘ, and I healⓘ them».

ταῦτα εἶπεν Ἠσαΐας ὅτι εἶδεν τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλάλησεν περὶ αὐτοῦ.
Questo disse Isaia perché vide la sua gloria e parlò di lui.
Isaiah said these things because he saw his gloryⓘ and spoke of him.

ὅμως μέντοι καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἀρχόντων πολλοὶ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν, ἀλλὰ διὰ τοὺς Φαρισαίους οὐχ ὡμολόγουν ἵνα μὴ ἀποσυνάγωγοι γένωνται·
Tuttavia, anche tra i capi, molti credettero in lui, ma, a causa dei farisei, non lo dichiaravano, per non essere espulsi dalla sinagoga.
Nevertheless even among the rulersⓘ many believedⓘ in him, but on account of the Pharisees (perushimⓘ) they did not confessⓘ him, so as not to be expelled from the synagogueⓘ.

ἠγάπησαν γὰρ τὴν δόξαν τῶν ἀνθρώπων μᾶλλον ἤπερ τὴν δόξαν τοῦ θεοῦ.
Amavano infatti la gloria degli uomini più che la gloria di Dio.
For they loved the glory of menⓘ more than the glory of Godⓘ.
