τοσαῦτα δὲ αὐτοῦ σημεῖα πεποιηκότος ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν οὐκ ἐπίστευον εἰς αὐτόν,
Sebbene avesse compiuto segni così grandi davanti a loro, non credevano in lui,
Although he had performed such great signsⓘ, they did not believe in him,

ἵνα ὁ λόγος Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου πληρωθῇ ὃν εἶπεν· Κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσεν τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν; καὶ ὁ βραχίων κυρίου τίνι ἀπεκαλύφθη;
perché si compisse la parola detta dal profeta Isaia: Signore, chi ha creduto alla nostra parola? E la potenza del Signore, a chi è stata rivelata?
so that the word of Isaiah might be fulfilled: who has believed our message?ⓘ And the arm of the Lord, to whom has it been revealed?

διὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἠδύναντο πιστεύειν ὅτι πάλιν εἶπεν Ἠσαΐας·
Per questo non potevano credere, perché ancora Isaia aveva detto:
For this reason they could not believe, because Isaiah had also said:

Τετύφλωκεν αὐτῶν τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς καὶ ⸀ἐπώρωσεν αὐτῶν τὴν καρδίαν, ἵνα μὴ ἴδωσιν τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς καὶ νοήσωσιν τῇ καρδίᾳ καὶ ⸀στραφῶσιν, καὶ ⸀ἰάσομαι αὐτούς.
Ha reso ciechi i loro occhi e ha indurito il loro cuore, perché non vedano con gli occhi e non comprendano con il cuore, e non si convertano e io li guarisca.
He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see and turn and I heal themⓘ.

ταῦτα εἶπεν Ἠσαΐας ⸀ὅτι εἶδεν τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλάλησεν περὶ αὐτοῦ.
Questo disse Isaia, perché vide la sua gloria e parlò di lui.
Isaiah said this because he saw his gloryⓘ and spoke of him.

ὅμως μέντοι καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἀρχόντων πολλοὶ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν, ἀλλὰ διὰ τοὺς Φαρισαίους οὐχ ὡμολόγουν ἵνα μὴ ἀποσυνάγωγοι γένωνται,
Tuttavia, anche tra i capi, molti credettero in lui, ma non lo dichiaravano a causa dei farisei, per non essere espulsi dalla sinagoga.
Yet even among the rulers many believedⓘ, but they did not confess it for fear of the Pharisees, so as not to be expelled from the synagogueⓘ.

ἠγάπησαν γὰρ τὴν δόξαν τῶν ἀνθρώπων μᾶλλον ἤπερ τὴν δόξαν τοῦ θεοῦ.
Amavano infatti la gloria degli uomini più della gloria di Dio.
They loved the glory of men more than the glory of Godⓘ.

Ἰησοῦς δὲ ἔκραξεν καὶ εἶπεν· Ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ οὐ πιστεύει εἰς ἐμὲ ἀλλὰ εἰς τὸν πέμψαντά με,
Gesù allora esclamò: «Chi crede in me, non crede in me ma in colui che mi ha mandato;
Jesus cried outⓘ: «Whoever believes in me does not believe in me but in the one who sent meⓘ;

καὶ ὁ θεωρῶν ἐμὲ θεωρεῖ τὸν πέμψαντά με.
chi vede me, vede colui che mi ha mandato.
whoever sees me sees the one who sent meⓘ.
46
ἐγὼ φῶς εἰς τὸν κόσμον ἐλήλυθα, ἵνα πᾶς ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ μὴ μείνῃ.
Io sono venuto nel mondo come luce, perché chiunque crede in me non rimanga nelle tenebre.
I have come into the world as lightⓘ, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darknessⓘ.

καὶ ἐάν τίς μου ἀκούσῃ τῶν ῥημάτων καὶ μὴ ⸀φυλάξῃ, ἐγὼ οὐ κρίνω αὐτόν, οὐ γὰρ ἦλθον ἵνα κρίνω τὸν κόσμον ἀλλ’ ἵνα σώσω τὸν κόσμον.
Se qualcuno ascolta le mie parole e non le osserva, io non lo condanno; perché non sono venuto per condannare il mondo, ma per salvare il mondo.
I have not come to condemn the world, but to save itⓘ.

ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐξ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐκ ἐλάλησα, ἀλλ’ ὁ πέμψας με πατὴρ αὐτός μοι ἐντολὴν ⸀δέδωκεν τί εἴπω καὶ τί λαλήσω.
Io non ho parlato da me stesso, ma il Padre, che mi ha mandato, mi ha ordinato lui che cosa devo dire e annunciare».
I have not spoken on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to sayⓘ.
