Greekεἶπαν οὖν ἐκ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ πρὸς ἀλλήλους· Τί ἐστιν τοῦτο ὃ λέγει ἡμῖν· Μικρὸν καὶ οὐ θεωρεῖτέ με, καὶ πάλιν μικρὸν καὶ ὄψεσθέ με; καί· Ὅτι ὑπάγω πρὸς τὸν πατέρα;
Orthodox ReadingSome of his disciplesⓘ therefore said among themselves: «What is this that he tells us: A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me? And: I go to the Fatherⓘ?».

Greekἔλεγον οὖν· Τί ἐστιν τοῦτο ὃ λέγει· Τὸ μικρόν; οὐκ οἴδαμεν τί λαλεῖ.

Greekἔγνω Ἰησοῦς ὅτι ἤθελον αὐτὸν ἐρωτᾶν, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Περὶ τούτου ζητεῖτε μετ' ἀλλήλων ὅτι εἶπον· Μικρὸν καὶ οὐ θεωρεῖτέ με, καὶ πάλιν μικρὸν καὶ ὄψεσθέ με;
Orthodox ReadingJesus knewⓘ that they wanted to question him, and he said to them: «About this do you inquireⓘ among yourselves, that I said: A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me?

Greekἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι κλαύσετε καὶ θρηνήσετε ὑμεῖς, ὁ δὲ κόσμος χαρήσεται· ὑμεῖς λυπηθήσεσθε, ἀλλ' ἡ λύπη ὑμῶν εἰς χαρὰν γενήσεται.
Orthodox ReadingAmèn, amèn, I say to youⓘ: you will weep and lamentⓘ, the worldⓘ however will rejoiceⓘ; you will be made sorrowfulⓘ, but your sorrow will become joyⓘ.

Greekἡ γυνὴ ὅταν τίκτῃ λύπην ἔχει, ὅτι ἦλθεν ἡ ὥρα αὐτῆς· ὅταν δὲ γεννήσῃ τὸ παιδίον, οὐκέτι μνημονεύει τῆς θλίψεως διὰ τὴν χαρὰν ὅτι ἐγεννήθη ἄνθρωπος εἰς τὸν κόσμον.
Orthodox ReadingThe womanⓘ, when she gives birthⓘ, has sorrow, because her hourⓘ has come; but when she has brought forthⓘ the child, she no longer remembers the sufferingⓘ, for the joy that a human being has been bornⓘ into the world.

Greekκαὶ ὑμεῖς οὖν νῦν μὲν λύπην ἔχετε· πάλιν δὲ ὄψομαι ὑμᾶς, καὶ χαρήσεται ὑμῶν ἡ καρδία, καὶ τὴν χαρὰν ὑμῶν οὐδεὶς αἴρει ἀφ' ὑμῶν.
Orthodox ReadingYou also therefore now have sorrow; but I will see you againⓘ, and your heartⓘ will rejoice, and your joy no one takesⓘ from you.

Greekκαὶ ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐμὲ οὐκ ἐρωτήσετε οὐδέν. ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἄν τι αἰτήσητε τὸν πατέρα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου δώσει ὑμῖν.
Orthodox ReadingAnd in that dayⓘ you will question me about nothing. Amèn, amèn, I say to youⓘ: if you askⓘ the Father in my Nameⓘ for anything, he will give it to you.

Greekἕως ἄρτι οὐκ ᾐτήσατε οὐδὲν ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου· αἰτεῖτε καὶ λήμψεσθε, ἵνα ἡ χαρὰ ὑμῶν ᾖ πεπληρωμένη.
Orthodox ReadingUntil now you have not askedⓘ for anything in my Name; askⓘ and you will receive, so that your joy may be filledⓘ.»
