Ἐλθὼν οὖν ὁ Ἰησοῦς εὗρεν αὐτὸν τέσσαρας ἤδη ἡμέρας ἔχοντα ἐν τῷ μνημείῳ.

Quando Gesù arrivò, trovò Lazzaro che già da quattro giorni era nel sepolcro.

When he arrived, then, Jesus found himⓘ already four daysⓘ in the tombⓘ.

ἦν δὲ ἡ Βηθανία ἐγγὺς τῶν Ἱεροσολύμων ὡς ἀπὸ σταδίων δεκαπέντε.

Bethany was near Jerusalemⓘ, about fifteen stadia away.

πολλοὶ δὲ ἐκ τῶν Ἰουδαίων ἐληλύθεισαν πρὸς τὴν Μάρθαν καὶ Μαρίαν, ἵνα παραμυθήσωνται αὐτὰς περὶ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ.

e molti Giudei erano venuti da Marta e Maria a consolarle per il fratello.

And many of the Jewsⓘ had come to Martha and Mary to console themⓘ concerning their brotherⓘ.

ἡ οὖν Μάρθα ὡς ἤκουσεν ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἔρχεται, ὑπήντησεν αὐτῷ· Μαρία δὲ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ ἐκαθέζετο.

Marta dunque, come udì che veniva Gesù, gli andò incontro; Maria invece stava seduta in casa.

Martha, then, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet himⓘ; Mary, however, sat in the houseⓘ.

εἶπεν οὖν ἡ Μάρθα πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν· Κύριε, εἰ ἦς ὧδε οὐκ ἂν ἀπέθανεν ὁ ἀδελφός μου·

Marta disse a Gesù: 'Signore, se tu fossi stato qui, mio fratello non sarebbe morto!

Martha then said to Jesus: «Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died;

ἀλλὰ καὶ νῦν οἶδα ὅτι ὅσα ἂν αἰτήσῃ τὸν θεὸν δώσει σοι ὁ θεός.

Ma anche ora so che qualunque cosa tu chiederai a Dio, Dio te la concederà'.

but even now I knowⓘ that whatever you askⓘ of Godⓘ, God will giveⓘ you».

λέγει αὐτῇ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἀναστήσεται ὁ ἀδελφός σου.

Gesù le disse: 'Tuo fratello risorgerà'.

Jesus saidⓘ to her: «Your brother will riseⓘ».

λέγει αὐτῷ ἡ Μάρθα· Οἶδα ὅτι ἀναστήσεται ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει ἐν τῇ ἐσχάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ.

Gli rispose Marta: 'So che risorgerà nella risurrezione dell'ultimo giorno'.

Martha said to him: «I know that he will rise in the resurrectionⓘ on the last dayⓘ, a doctrine of the Phariseesⓘ».

εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἐγώ εἰμι ἡ ἀνάστασις καὶ ἡ ζωή· ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ κἂν ἀποθάνῃ ζήσεται,

Gesù le disse: 'Io sono la risurrezione e la vita; chi crede in me, anche se muore, vivrà;

Jesus said to her: «I amⓘ the resurrection and the life; whoever believesⓘ in me, even if he dies, will liveⓘ;

καὶ πᾶς ὁ ζῶν καὶ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνῃ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. πιστεύεις τοῦτο;

chiunque vive e crede in me, non morirà in eterno. Credi questo?'.

and whoever livesⓘ and believes in me will never die for everⓘ. Do you believe this?».

λέγει αὐτῷ· Ναί, κύριε· ἐγὼ πεπίστευκα ὅτι σὺ εἶ ὁ χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ ὁ εἰς τὸν κόσμον ἐρχόμενος.

Gli rispose: 'Sì, o Signore, io credo che tu sei il Cristo, il Figlio di Dio, colui che viene nel mondo'.

She said to him: «Yes, Lordⓘ; I believeⓘ that you are the Christⓘ, the Son of Godⓘ, the one who comesⓘ into the world».
