Orthodox ReadingWhen the festival was now at the midpoint of Sukkotⓘ, Jesus went up to the Temple (the Beit ha-Miqdash)ⓘ and began to teach.
15
Greek⸂ἐθαύμαζον οὖν⸃ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι λέγοντες· Πῶς οὗτος γράμματα οἶδεν μὴ μεμαθηκώς;
Gnostic TranslationI Giudei ne erano stupiti e dicevano: «Come mai costui conosce le Scritture, senza avere studiato?».
Orthodox ReadingThe Judean authoritiesⓘ were astonished and said: «How does this man know the Scriptures without having attended a bet midrashⓘ?».
162
Orthodox ReadingJesus answered them: «My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me as his emissary (shaliach)ⓘ.
172
Orthodox ReadingIf anyone wishes to do his will — to put the mitzvot into practiceⓘ, he will know whether this teaching is from God, or whether I speak on my own.
18
Orthodox ReadingWhoever speaks on his own seeks his own glory (kavod)ⓘ; but whoever seeks the glory of the one who sent him, this man is truthful, and in him there is no injustice.
193
GreekΟὐ Μωϋσῆς ⸀δέδωκεν ὑμῖν τὸν νόμον; καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ποιεῖ τὸν νόμον. τί με ζητεῖτε ἀποκτεῖναι;
Orthodox ReadingDid not Moses give you the Torahⓘ? Yet none of you keeps itⓘ! Why do you seek to kill meⓘ?».
20
Greekἀπεκρίθη ὁ ⸀ὄχλος· Δαιμόνιον ἔχεις· τίς σε ζητεῖ ἀποκτεῖναι;
Gnostic TranslationRispose la folla: «Sei indemoniato! Chi cerca di ucciderti?».
Orthodox ReadingThe crowd of am ha-aretz, the common folkⓘ answered: «You are possessed by a demonⓘ! Who seeks to kill you?».
21
Gnostic TranslationDisse loro Gesù: «Un'opera sola ho compiuto e tutti ne siete meravigliati.
Orthodox ReadingJesus said to them: «I have done a single work — the healing of the paralytic at Bethesda (cf. 5:1-9) — and you are all amazed at it.
222
Orthodox ReadingMoses gave you circumcision (berit milah)ⓘ — not that it comes from Moses, but from the patriarchsⓘ — and you perform the milah even on Shabbatⓘ.
234
Greekεἰ περιτομὴν ⸀λαμβάνει ἄνθρωπος ἐν σαββάτῳ ἵνα μὴ λυθῇ ὁ νόμος Μωϋσέως, ἐμοὶ χολᾶτε ὅτι ὅλον ἄνθρωπον ὑγιῆ ἐποίησα ἐν σαββάτῳ;
Orthodox ReadingNow, if a man receives the milah on Shabbatⓘ so that the Torah of Moses may not be brokenⓘ, are you indignant with me because — by a reasoning from the lesser to the greater (qal wa-homer)ⓘ I made a whole man well on Shabbat?
244
