GreekΚαὶ ἐπὶ τούτῳ ἦλθαν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ⸀ἐθαύμαζον ὅτι μετὰ γυναικὸς ἐλάλει· οὐδεὶς μέντοι εἶπεν· Τί ζητεῖς; ἢ τί λαλεῖς μετ’ αὐτῆς;
Orthodox ReadingAnd upon this his disciples arrived, and they were astonished that he was holding a conversation with a woman; yet no one dared to say: «What do you seek?» or «Why are you speaking with her?».

Greekἀφῆκεν οὖν τὴν ὑδρίαν αὐτῆς ἡ γυνὴ καὶ ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὴν πόλιν καὶ λέγει τοῖς ἀνθρώποις·
Orthodox ReadingThe woman therefore left her water jar and went off into the city and says to the men :

GreekΔεῦτε ἴδετε ἄνθρωπον ὃς εἶπέ μοι πάντα ⸀ὅσα ἐποίησα· μήτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ χριστός;
Orthodox Reading«Come, see a man who told me everything that I have done; could this one perhaps be the Messiah ?».

Greekἐξῆλθον ἐκ τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἤρχοντο πρὸς αὐτόν.
Orthodox ReadingThey went out of the city and were coming toward him.

Greek⸀Ἐν τῷ μεταξὺ ἠρώτων αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ λέγοντες· Ῥαββί, φάγε.
Orthodox ReadingIn the meantime the disciples were urging him, saying: «Rabbi , eat».

Greekὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ἐγὼ βρῶσιν ἔχω φαγεῖν ἣν ὑμεῖς οὐκ οἴδατε.
Orthodox ReadingBut he said to them: «I have a food to eat that you do not know».

Greekἔλεγον οὖν οἱ μαθηταὶ πρὸς ἀλλήλους· Μή τις ἤνεγκεν αὐτῷ φαγεῖν;
Orthodox ReadingThe disciples therefore said to one another: «Could someone perhaps have brought him something to eat?».

Greekλέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἐμὸν βρῶμά ἐστιν ἵνα ⸀ποιήσω τὸ θέλημα τοῦ πέμψαντός με καὶ τελειώσω αὐτοῦ τὸ ἔργον.
Orthodox ReadingJesus says to them: «My food is that I should do the will of the One who sent me as his envoy and bring to completion his work.

Greekοὐχ ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι Ἔτι τετράμηνός ἐστιν καὶ ὁ θερισμὸς ἔρχεται; ἰδοὺ λέγω ὑμῖν, ἐπάρατε τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ὑμῶν καὶ θεάσασθε τὰς χώρας ὅτι λευκαί εἰσιν πρὸς θερισμόν· ἤδη
Orthodox ReadingDo you not say that yet four months remain and then the harvest comes? Behold , I say to you: lift up your eyes and look at the fields that are already white for the harvest;

Greek⸀ὁ θερίζων μισθὸν λαμβάνει καὶ συνάγει καρπὸν εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον, ⸀ἵνα ὁ σπείρων ὁμοῦ χαίρῃ καὶ ὁ θερίζων.
Orthodox Readingalready the one who reaps receives wages and gathers fruit for the life of the world to come , so that the one who sows may rejoice together with the one who reaps.

Greekἐν γὰρ τούτῳ ὁ λόγος ⸀ἐστὶν ἀληθινὸς ὅτι Ἄλλος ἐστὶν ὁ σπείρων καὶ ἄλλος ὁ θερίζων·
Orthodox ReadingFor in this the Word is true, that one is the one who sows and another the one who reaps;

Greekἐγὼ ἀπέστειλα ὑμᾶς θερίζειν ὃ οὐχ ὑμεῖς κεκοπιάκατε· ἄλλοι κεκοπιάκασιν, καὶ ὑμεῖς εἰς τὸν κόπον αὐτῶν εἰσεληλύθατε.
Orthodox ReadingI have sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.

GreekἘκ δὲ τῆς πόλεως ἐκείνης πολλοὶ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτὸν τῶν Σαμαριτῶν διὰ τὸν λόγον τῆς γυναικὸς μαρτυρούσης ὅτι Εἶπέν μοι πάντα ⸀ἃ ἐποίησα.
Orthodox ReadingFrom that city many among the Samaritans placed their trust in him on account of the word of the woman who was bearing witness : «He told me everything that I have done».

Greekὡς οὖν ἦλθον πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ Σαμαρῖται, ἠρώτων αὐτὸν μεῖναι παρ’ αὐτοῖς· καὶ ἔμεινεν ἐκεῖ δύο ἡμέρας.
Orthodox ReadingWhen therefore the Samaritans came to him, they were begging him to remain with them; and he remained there two days.

Orthodox ReadingAnd to the woman they said: «No longer on account of your speaking do we believe; for we ourselves have heard , and we know that this one is truly the Savior of the world ».
