Ἄγουσιν αὐτὸν πρὸς τοὺς Φαρισαίους, τόν ποτε τυφλόν.
Condussero dai farisei quello che era stato cieco:
They bring before the Pharisees (perushim)ⓘ, the separated observant ones, the man who formerly was blind.

ἦν δὲ σάββατον ἐν ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ τὸν πηλὸν ἐποίησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἀνέῳξεν αὐτοῦ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς.
era un sabato, il giorno in cui Gesù aveva fatto del fango e gli aveva aperto gli occhi.
It was the Sabbath (Shabbat)ⓘ, the day consecrated to rest, when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes: kneading the clay was one of the melakhot (the forbidden labors)ⓘ, the labors forbidden on the day of rest.

πάλιν οὖν ἠρώτων αὐτὸν καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι πῶς ἀνέβλεψεν. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Πηλὸν ἐπέθηκέν μου ἐπὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς, καὶ ἐνιψάμην, καὶ βλέπω.
Anche i farisei dunque gli chiesero di nuovo come aveva acquistato la vista. Ed egli disse loro: 'Mi ha messo del fango sugli occhi, mi sono lavato e ci vedo'.
Again therefore the Pharisees (perushim) also questioned him, asking how he had regained his sightⓘ. And he answered them: «He put clay on my eyes, I immersed myself (tevilah)ⓘ, I washed in the basin, and now I see».

ἔλεγον οὖν ἐκ τῶν Φαρισαίων τινές· Οὐκ ἔστιν οὗτος παρὰ θεοῦ ὁ ἄνθρωπος, ὅτι τὸ σάββατον οὐ τηρεῖ. ἄλλοι ἔλεγον· Πῶς δύναται ἄνθρωπος ἁμαρτωλὸς τοιαῦτα σημεῖα ποιεῖν; καὶ σχίσμα ἦν ἐν αὐτοῖς.
Allora alcuni dei farisei dicevano: 'Quest'uomo non viene da Dio, perché non osserva il sabato'. Altri invece dicevano: 'Come può un peccatore compiere segni di questo genere?'. E c'era dissenso tra loro.
Some of the Pharisees (perushim) then said: «This man is not from God, because he does not keep the Sabbathⓘ». Others, however, said: «How can a sinful man (chotè)ⓘ perform such signs (otot)ⓘ?». And there was a division (schisma)ⓘ among them.

λέγουσιν οὖν τῷ τυφλῷ πάλιν· Τί σὺ λέγεις περὶ αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἠνέῳξέν σου τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν ὅτι Προφήτης ἐστίν.
Allora dissero di nuovo al cieco: 'Tu, che cosa dici di lui, dal momento che ti ha aperto gli occhi?'. Egli rispose: 'È un profeta!'.
So they say again to the blind man: «What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?». And he said: «He is a prophet (navì)ⓘ, a spokesman of God».

Οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι περὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἦν τυφλὸς καὶ ἀνέβλεψεν, ἕως ὅτου ἐφώνησαν τοὺς γονεῖς αὐτοῦ τοῦ ἀναβλέψαντος,
Ma i Giudei non credettero di lui che fosse stato cieco e che avesse acquistato la vista, finché non chiamarono i genitori di colui che aveva ricuperato la vista.
The Judeans (Yehudim)ⓘ, the authorities of the council, would not believe concerning him that he had been blind and had regained his sight, until they summoned the parents of the one who had regained his sight,

καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτοὺς λέγοντες· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς ὑμῶν, ὃν ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι τυφλὸς ἐγεννήθη; πῶς οὖν βλέπει ἄρτι;
E li interrogarono: 'È questo il vostro figlio, che voi dite essere nato cieco? Come mai ora ci vede?'.
and they questioned them, saying: «Is this your son, the one you say was born blind? How then does he now see?».

ἀπεκρίθησαν οὖν οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπαν· Οἴδαμεν ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς ἡμῶν καὶ ὅτι τυφλὸς ἐγεννήθη·
I genitori di lui risposero: 'Sappiamo che questo è nostro figlio e che è nato cieco;
His parents answered, saying: «We know that this is our son and that he was born blind;

πῶς δὲ νῦν βλέπει οὐκ οἴδαμεν, ἢ τίς ἤνοιξεν αὐτοῦ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ἡμεῖς οὐκ οἴδαμεν· αὐτὸν ἐρωτήσατε, ἡλικίαν ἔχει, αὐτὸς περὶ ἑαυτοῦ λαλήσει.
ma come ora ci veda non lo sappiamo, e chi gli abbia aperto gli occhi, noi non lo sappiamo. Chiedetelo a lui: ha l'età, parlerà lui di sé'.
but how he now sees we do not know, nor do we know who opened his eyes; question him himself, he is of age (hēlikían échei)ⓘ, he is of age according to the halakhah, he will speak for himself».

ταῦτα εἶπαν οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἐφοβοῦντο τοὺς Ἰουδαίους· ἤδη γὰρ συνετέθειντο οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι ἵνα ἐάν τις αὐτὸν ὁμολογήσῃ χριστόν, ἀποσυνάγωγος γένηται.
Questo dissero i suoi genitori, perché avevano paura dei Giudei; infatti i Giudei avevano già stabilito che, se uno lo avesse riconosciuto come il Cristo, venisse espulso dalla sinagoga.
His parents said these things because they feared the Judean leadersⓘ: for already the authorities (bet din) had agreedⓘ, the council of the leaders, that, if anyone should confess Jesus as the Messiah (Mashiach)ⓘ, the Anointed One of Israel, he would be expelled from the synagogue (aposynagogos)ⓘ, excluded from the synagogue.

διὰ τοῦτο οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ εἶπαν ὅτι Ἡλικίαν ἔχει, αὐτὸν ἐπερωτήσατε.
Per questo i suoi genitori dissero: 'Ha l'età: chiedetelo a lui!'.
For this reason his parents said: «He is of age, question him».
