Τούτων δὲ πορευομένων ἤρξατο ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγειν τοῖς ὄχλοις περὶ Ἰωάννου· Τί ἐξήλθατε εἰς τὴν ἔρημον θεάσασθαι; κάλαμον ὑπὸ ἀνέμου σαλευόμενον;
Mentre quelli se ne andavano, Gesù si mise a parlare di Giovanni alle folle: «Che cosa siete andati a vedere nel deserto? Una canna sbattuta dal vento?
As they were leaving, Jesus began to speak about John to the crowds, to the am ha-aretzⓘ (the non-observant common people): «What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the windⓘ?

ἀλλὰ τί ἐξήλθατε ἰδεῖν; ἄνθρωπον ἐν ⸀μαλακοῖς ἠμφιεσμένον; ἰδοὺ οἱ τὰ μαλακὰ φοροῦντες ἐν τοῖς οἴκοις τῶν ⸀βασιλέων ⸀εἰσίν.
Allora, che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un uomo vestito con abiti di lusso? Ecco, quelli che portano abiti di lusso stanno nei palazzi dei re!
A man clothed in soft garmentsⓘ? Behold, those who wear soft garments are in the houses of kingsⓘ.

ἀλλὰ τί ἐξήλθατε⸂; προφήτην ἰδεῖν⸃; ναί, λέγω ὑμῖν, καὶ περισσότερον προφήτου.
Ebbene, che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un profeta? Sì, io vi dico, anzi, più che un profeta.
But what did you go out to see? A prophetⓘ? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophetⓘ.

⸀οὗτός ἐστιν περὶ οὗ γέγραπται· Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω τὸν ἄγγελόν μου πρὸ προσώπου σου, ὃς κατασκευάσει τὴν ὁδόν σου ἔμπροσθέν σου.
Egli è colui del quale sta scritto: Ecco, dinanzi a te io mando il mio messaggero, davanti a te egli preparerà la tua via.
He is the one of whom it is writtenⓘ: «Behold, I send my messenger before your faceⓘ, who will prepare your way before you».

ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, οὐκ ἐγήγερται ἐν γεννητοῖς γυναικῶν μείζων Ἰωάννου τοῦ βαπτιστοῦ· ὁ δὲ μικρότερος ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν μείζων αὐτοῦ ἐστιν.
In verità io vi dico: fra i nati da donna non è sorto alcuno più grande di Giovanni il Battista; ma il più piccolo nel regno dei cieli è più grande di lui.
Truly I tell you, among those born of womenⓘ none has arisen greater than John the Baptistⓘ; yet the least in the Kingdom of Heavenⓘ is greater than he.

ἀπὸ δὲ τῶν ἡμερῶν Ἰωάννου τοῦ βαπτιστοῦ ἕως ἄρτι ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν βιάζεται, καὶ βιασταὶ ἁρπάζουσιν αὐτήν.
Dai giorni di Giovanni il Battista fino ad ora, il regno dei cieli subisce violenza e i violenti se ne impadroniscono.
From the days of John the Baptist until now the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent seize itⓘ.

πάντες γὰρ οἱ προφῆται καὶ ὁ νόμος ἕως Ἰωάννου ἐπροφήτευσαν·
Tutti i Profeti e la Legge infatti hanno profetato fino a Giovanni.
All the prophets and the Torahⓘ prophesied until Johnⓘ.

καὶ εἰ θέλετε δέξασθαι, αὐτός ἐστιν Ἠλίας ὁ μέλλων ἔρχεσθαι.
E se volete comprendere, egli è quell'Elia che deve venire.
And, if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to comeⓘ.

ὁ ἔχων ⸀ὦτα ἀκουέτω.
Chi ha orecchi, ascolti!
Whoever has ears, let them hearⓘ».
