GreekΤότε οἱ στρατιῶται τοῦ ἡγεμόνος παραλαβόντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον συνήγαγον ἐπ' αὐτὸν ὅλην τὴν σπεῖραν.
Orthodox ReadingThen the soldiers of the governor took Jesus with them into the praetorium and gathered the whole cohort around him.

Greekκαὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν χλαμύδα κοκκίνην περιέθηκαν αὐτῷ,

Greekκαὶ πλέξαντες στέφανον ἐξ ἀκανθῶν ἐπέθηκαν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ κάλαμον ἐν τῇ δεξιᾷ αὐτοῦ, καὶ γονυπετήσαντες ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ λέγοντες· Χαῖρε, βασιλεῦ τῶν Ἰουδαίων,
Orthodox Readingand having woven a crown of thorns they placed it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and kneeling before him they mocked him, saying: «Hail, King of the Jews !».

Greekκαὶ ἐμπτύσαντες εἰς αὐτὸν ἔλαβον τὸν κάλαμον καὶ ἔτυπτον εἰς τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ.
Orthodox ReadingAnd spitting on him, they took the reed and struck him on the head.

Greekκαὶ ὅτε ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ, ἐξέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὴν χλαμύδα καὶ ἐνέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ σταυρῶσαι.
Orthodox ReadingAnd when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the cloak and clothed him in his own garments, and led him away to crucify him .

GreekἘξερχόμενοι δὲ εὗρον ἄνθρωπον Κυρηναῖον ὀνόματι Σίμωνα, τοῦτον ἠγγάρευσαν ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ.
Orthodox ReadingAs they were going out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon; this man they conscripted to carry his cross.

Greekἔδωκαν αὐτῷ πιεῖν οἶνον μετὰ χολῆς μεμιγμένον· καὶ γευσάμενος οὐκ ἠθέλησεν πιεῖν.
Orthodox Readingthey gave him wine mixed with gall to drink; and having tasted it, he would not drink.

Greekσταυρώσαντες δὲ αὐτὸν διεμερίσαντο τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ βάλλοντες κλῆρον,
Orthodox ReadingAnd having crucified him, they divided his garments by casting lots ,

Greekκαὶ καθήμενοι ἐτήρουν αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ.
Orthodox Readingand sitting down they kept watch over him there.

Greekκαὶ ἐπέθηκαν ἐπάνω τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ τὴν αἰτίαν αὐτοῦ γεγραμμένην· Οὗτός ἐστιν Ἰησοῦς ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων.
Orthodox ReadingAnd they placed over his head his charge written: «This is Jesus, the King of the Jews».

GreekΤότε σταυροῦνται σὺν αὐτῷ δύο λῃσταί, εἷς ἐκ δεξιῶν καὶ εἷς ἐξ εὐωνύμων.
Orthodox ReadingThen two armed rebels (biryonim) are crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left.

GreekΟἱ δὲ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν

Greekκαὶ λέγοντες· Ὁ καταλύων τὸν ναὸν καὶ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις οἰκοδομῶν, σῶσον σεαυτόν, εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ κατάβηθι ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ.
Orthodox Readingand saying: «You who destroy the sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, save yourself, if you are the Son of God, and come down from the cross!».

Greekὁμοίως καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐμπαίζοντες μετὰ τῶν γραμματέων καὶ πρεσβυτέρων ἔλεγον·
Orthodox ReadingLikewise also the archiereis (kohanim of the temple summit) , mocking him with the scribes (soferim) and the elders (zeqenim) , said:

GreekἌλλους ἔσωσεν, ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται σῶσαι· βασιλεὺς Ἰσραήλ ἐστιν, καταβάτω νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ καὶ πιστεύσομεν ἐπ' αὐτόν.
Orthodox Reading«Others he saved, himself he cannot save; he is King of Israel , let him come down now from the cross and we will believe in him.

Greekπέποιθεν ἐπὶ τὸν θεόν, ῥυσάσθω νῦν εἰ θέλει αὐτόν· εἶπεν γὰρ ὅτι θεοῦ εἰμι υἱός.
Orthodox ReadingHe has trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he cares for him ; for he said: "I am the Son of God"».

Greekτὸ δ' αὐτὸ καὶ οἱ λῃσταὶ οἱ συσταυρωθέντες σὺν αὐτῷ ὠνείδιζον αὐτόν.
Orthodox ReadingAnd in the same way also the armed rebels crucified with him reviled him.
