Orthodox ReadingAnd behold, a man who had a withered handⓘ. And they questioned him, saying: «Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbathⓘ?» — the saving of lifeⓘ suspends the rest, but the withered hand is not a danger to life: the question is whether non-urgent care is permitted — so that they might accuse him.

Orthodox ReadingHe said to them: «What man among you who has a single sheep, and this falls into a pit on the Sabbathⓘ, will not take hold of it and pull it out?» — an argument from the lesser to the greaterⓘ: the Pharisaic halakhahⓘ allowed it, while the Essenesⓘ prohibited it.
