When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judeaⓘ, in the days of king Herodⓘ, behold, Magiⓘ came from the eastⓘ to Jerusalemⓘ
2
saying: «Where is the king of the Jewsⓘ who has been born? We have seen his star in the eastⓘ and have come to prostrate ourselves before himⓘ».
3
Udito ciò, il re Erode si turbò, e con lui tutta Gerusalemme;
When he heard this, king Herod was troubledⓘ, and with him all Jerusalem;
4
and having gathered all the chief priests of the temple summit (kohanim)ⓘ and the scribes-experts of the Scriptures (soferim)ⓘ of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiahⓘ was to be born.
5
They said to him: «In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written through the prophet:
6
And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means the least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you shall come a ruler who shall shepherd my people Israelⓘ».
7
Allora Erode, chiamati di nascosto i Magi, si fece precisare da loro il tempo in cui era apparsa la stella;
Then Herod, having secretly summoned the Magiⓘ, ascertained from them the exact time when the star had appeared;
8
and sending them to Bethlehem he said: «Go and search out carefullyⓘ for the child; and when you have found him, let me know, so that I too may come to pay him homageⓘ».
9
They, having heard the king, departed; and behold, the star that they had seen in the east went before them, until it came and stopped overⓘ the place where the child was.
10
Vista la stella, gioirono di gioia grandissima.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joyⓘ.
11
And entering the houseⓘ, they saw the child with Mary his motherⓘ, and prostrate, they paid him homageⓘ; and having opened their treasuresⓘ, they offered him as gifts gold, frankincense and myrrhⓘ.
12
And warned in a dreamⓘ not to return to Herod, they withdrew to their own country by another way.
