Orthodox Reading«Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the ⓘ will be handed over into the hands of the kohanim of the temple leadership ⓘ, the priestly aristocracy, and of the soferim ⓘ, the scribes of the Torah, and they will condemn him to death,

Greekκαὶ παραδώσουσιν αὐτὸν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν εἰς τὸ ἐμπαῖξαι καὶ μαστιγῶσαι καὶ σταυρῶσαι, καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἐγερθήσεται.
Orthodox Readingand then they will hand him over to the gentiles ⓘ so that they may mock him, scourge him, and crucify him, but on the ⓘ he will rise.»

Orthodox ReadingBut Jesus answered them: «You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup ⓘ that I am about to drink?» And they said to him: «We are able.»

Greekλέγει αὐτοῖς· Τὸ μὲν ποτήριόν μου πίεσθε, τὸ δὲ καθίσαι ἐκ δεξιῶν μου καὶ ἐξ εὐωνύμων οὐκ ἔστιν ἐμὸν δοῦναι, ἀλλ' οἷς ἡτοίμασται ὑπὸ τοῦ πατρός μου.
Orthodox ReadingHe said to them: «My cup, yes, you will drink, but to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to grant: such places are for those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.

GreekΚαὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ δέκα ἠγανάκτησαν περὶ τῶν δύο ἀδελφῶν.

Greekὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς προσκαλεσάμενος αὐτοὺς εἶπεν· Οἴδατε ὅτι οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν ἐθνῶν κατακυριεύουσιν αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ μεγάλοι κατεξουσιάζουσιν αὐτῶν.
Orthodox ReadingBut Jesus, calling them to himself, said: «You know that the rulers of the nations exercise a despotic dominion over them and the great oppress them with tyranny.

Greekοὐχ οὕτως ἔσται ἐν ὑμῖν· ἀλλ' ὃς ἐὰν θέλῃ ἐν ὑμῖν μέγας γενέσθαι ἔσται ὑμῶν διάκονος,

Greekὥσπερ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου οὐκ ἦλθεν διακονηθῆναι ἀλλὰ διακονῆσαι καὶ δοῦναι τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ λύτρον ἀντὶ πολλῶν.
Orthodox ReadingThus the Son of Man too did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom ⓘ for the multitudes ⓘ, fulfilling the mission of the one who offers himself as a sacrifice of reparation.»
