And after six days — on the seventh day, echoing Moses' ascent of Sinai — Jesusⓘ took with him Peterⓘ, Jamesⓘ and Johnⓘ his brother, and led them upⓘ a high mountain, apart.
2
And he was transfiguredⓘ before them, and his face shone like the sun — as the face of Moses shone after the encounter with the Lordⓘ — and his garments became white as the light, like the raiment of the Ancient of Days white as snow.
3
And behold, there appeared to them Mosesⓘ and Elijahⓘ conversing with him: the Torahⓘ and the Prophets manifest themselves beside the Messiah, who is the fulfillment and not the replacement of the Word given to Israel.
4
Answering, Peter said to Jesus: «Lord, it is good for us to be here: if you wish, I will make here three boothsⓘ, one for you, one for Moses, one for Elijah.»
5
Ascoltatelo".
While he was still speaking, behold, a luminous cloudⓘ overshadowed themⓘ, and behold, a voice from the cloudⓘ that said: «This is my Son, the belovedⓘ, in him I am well pleased; listen to him», as the Lord commanded Israel in the wilderness: «A prophet like Moses I will raise up for you: to him you shall listen».
6
And on hearing this the disciplesⓘ fell face down upon their faces, in the gesture of adoration before the Shekhinah, and were seized with great fear.
7
And Jesus drew near and, touching themⓘ, said to them: «Ariseⓘ and do not fear.»
8
Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus alone: Moses and Elijah had withdrawn, only Jesus remains.
9
And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying: «Tell no one the visionⓘ until the Son of Manⓘ rises from the deadⓘ.»
