GreekΚαὶ προσῆλθον αὐτῷ Φαρισαῖοι πειράζοντες αὐτὸν καὶ λέγοντες· Εἰ ἔξεστιν ἀνθρώπῳ ἀπολῦσαι τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ κατὰ πᾶσαν αἰτίαν;

Orthodox ReadingAnd the Pharisees (perushim) approached him, the observant ones perushimⓘ, to test himⓘ, and they said to him: «Is it lawfulⓘ for a man to repudiate his own wife for any causeⓘ?».

Greekὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε ὅτι ὁ κτίσας ἀπ' ἀρχῆς ἄρσεν καὶ θῆλυ ἐποίησεν αὐτούς;

Orthodox ReadingAnd he, answering, said to them: «Have you not readⓘ that He who created from the beginningⓘ made them male and femaleⓘ?».

Greekκαὶ εἶπεν· Ἕνεκα τούτου καταλείψει ἄνθρωπος τὸν πατέρα καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ κολληθήσεται τῇ γυναικὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔσονται οἱ δύο εἰς σάρκα μίαν.

Orthodox Reading«And he said: For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall be joined to his womanⓘ, and the two shall become one fleshⓘ».

Greekὥστε οὐκέτι εἰσὶν δύο ἀλλὰ σὰρξ μία. ὃ οὖν ὁ θεὸς συνέζευξεν ἄνθρωπος μὴ χωριζέτω.

Orthodox Reading«So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has yoked togetherⓘ, let not man separateⓘ».

Greekλέγουσιν αὐτῷ· Τί οὖν Μωϋσῆς ἐνετείλατο δοῦναι βιβλίον ἀποστασίου καὶ ἀπολῦσαι αὐτήν;

Greekλέγει αὐτοῖς ὅτι Μωϋσῆς πρὸς τὴν σκληροκαρδίαν ὑμῶν ἐπέτρεψεν ὑμῖν ἀπολῦσαι τὰς γυναῖκας ὑμῶν, ἀπ' ἀρχῆς δὲ οὐ γέγονεν οὕτως.
