GreekΚαὶ εὐθέως ἠνάγκασεν τοὺς μαθητὰς ἐμβῆναι εἰς τὸ πλοῖον καὶ προάγειν αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ πέραν, ἕως οὗ ἀπολύσῃ τοὺς ὄχλους.
Orthodox ReadingAnd at once he compelledⓘ the disciples disciplesⓘ to embark in the boat and to go before him to the other shore, while he dismissed the crowds of am ha-aretzⓘ (the common folk of the land).

Greekκαὶ ἀπολύσας τοὺς ὄχλους ἀνέβη εἰς τὸ ὄρος κατ' ἰδίαν προσεύξασθαι. ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης μόνος ἦν ἐκεῖ.
Orthodox ReadingAnd, having dismissed those crowds, he went up on the mountainⓘ apart to pray the tefillah (the fixed prayer of Israel) to prayⓘ; when evening had come, at the hour of the arvit (the evening prayer), he was there alone.

Greekὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Ἐλθέ. καὶ καταβὰς ἀπὸ τοῦ πλοίου ὁ Πέτρος περιεπάτησεν ἐπὶ τὰ ὕδατα καὶ ἦλθεν πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν.
Orthodox ReadingHe said: «Come». And, having stepped down from the boat, Peter walked upon the waters and came toward Jesus.

Greekβλέπων δὲ τὸν ἄνεμον ἰσχυρὸν ἐφοβήθη, καὶ ἀρξάμενος καταποντίζεσθαι ἔκραξεν λέγων· Κύριε, σῶσόν με.
Orthodox ReadingBut, seeing the strong wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sinkⓘ, he cried out saying: «Lord, save meⓘ».

Greekοἱ δὲ ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ λέγοντες· Ἀληθῶς θεοῦ υἱὸς εἶ.
Orthodox ReadingThose in the boat prostrated themselves in proskynesis (the adoration reserved to God alone) prostrated themselvesⓘ before him saying: «Truly you are Son of Godⓘ».
