Πάλιν ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἐρρέθη τοῖς ἀρχαίοις, Οὐκ ἐπιορκήσεις, ἀποδώσεις δὲ τῷ κυρίῳ τοὺς ὅρκους σου.
Avete anche inteso che fu detto agli antichi: "Non giurerai il falso, ma adempirai verso il Signore i tuoi giuramenti".
«Again you have heardⓘ that it was saidⓘ to the ancients, the generation of Sinaiⓘ: You shall not swear falsely — you shall not swear by the Name falselyⓘ — but you shall render to the Tetragrammaton your oathsⓘ pronounced before Him must be discharged⟧.

ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν μὴ ὀμόσαι ὅλως· μήτε ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ, ὅτι θρόνος ἐστὶ τοῦ Θεοῦ·
Ma io vi dico: non giurate affatto, né per il cielo, perché è il trono di Dio,
But I say to you: do not swear at all — in no case and for nothing — neither by heavenⓘ, for it is the throne of Godⓘ;

μήτε ἐν τῇ γῇ, ὅτι ὑποπόδιόν ἐστι τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ· μήτε εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα, ὅτι πόλις ἐστὶν τοῦ μεγάλου βασιλέως·
né per la terra, perché è lo sgabello dei suoi piedi, né per Gerusalemme, perché è la città del grande Re.
nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feetⓘ; nor by Jerusalemⓘ, for it is the city of the Great Kingⓘ.

μήτε ἐν τῇ κεφαλῇ σου ὀμόσῃς, ὅτι οὐ δύνασαι μίαν τρίχα λευκὴν ἢ μέλαιναν ποιῆσαι.
Non giurare neppure per la tua testa, perché non hai il potere di rendere bianco o nero un solo capello.
Neither shall you swear by your headⓘ, for you have no power to make a single hairⓘ white or black.

Ἔστω δὲ ὁ λόγος ὑμῶν, ναὶ ναί, οὒ οὔ· τὸ δὲ περισσὸν τούτων ἐκ τοῦ πονηροῦ ἐστιν.
Sia invece il vostro parlare: "Sì, sì", "No, no"; il di più viene dal Maligno.
Let instead your wordⓘ be: yes yes, no no — the double attestation of the righteousⓘ; the surplus that exceeds this simplicity comes from the Evil Oneⓘ.»
