Τῇ δὲ Ἐλισάβετ ἐπλήσθη ὁ χρόνος τοῦ τεκεῖν αὐτήν, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱόν.
Per Elisabetta intanto si compì il tempo del parto e diede alla luce un figlio.
* Now for Elizabeth the time of bearing was fulfilled, and she brought forth a son. *

καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ περίοικοι καὶ οἱ συγγενεῖς αὐτῆς ὅτι ἐμεγάλυνεν κύριος τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ μετ' αὐτῆς, καὶ συνέχαιρον αὐτῇ.
I vicini e i parenti udirono che il Signore aveva manifestato in lei la sua grande misericordia, e si rallegravano con lei.
* And her neighbors and her kinsfolkⓘ heard that the Lord had magnified his mercyⓘ toward her, and they rejoiced with her. *

Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ὀγδόῃ ἦλθον περιτεμεῖν τὸ παιδίον, καὶ ἐκάλουν αὐτὸ ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ Ζαχαρίαν.
Otto giorni dopo vennero per circoncidere il bambino e volevano chiamarlo con il nome di suo padre, Zaccaria.
* And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child in the berit milah the covenantⓘ, and they were calling him by the name of his father, Zechariah. *

καὶ ἀποκριθεῖσα ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ εἶπεν· Οὐχί, ἀλλὰ κληθήσεται Ἰωάννης.
Ma sua madre intervenne: «No, si chiamerà Giovanni».
* And his mother answering said: «No, but he shall be called Johnⓘ». *

καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτὴν ὅτι Οὐδείς ἐστιν ἐκ τῆς συγγενείας σου ὃς καλεῖται τῷ ὀνόματι τούτῳ.
Le dissero: «Non c'è nessuno della tua parentela che si chiami con questo nome».
* And they said to her: «There is no one among your kindred who is called by this name». *

ἐνένευον δὲ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ τὸ τί ἂν θέλοι καλεῖσθαι αὐτό.
Allora domandavano con cenni a suo padre come voleva che si chiamasse.
* And they made signs to his father, as to what he wished him to be called. *

καὶ αἰτήσας πινακίδιον ἔγραψεν λέγων· Ἰωάννης ἐστὶν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ. καὶ ἐθαύμασαν πάντες.
Egli chiese una tavoletta e scrisse: «Giovanni è il suo nome». Tutti furono meravigliati.
* And he, having asked for a writing tabletⓘ, wrote saying: «John is his name». And they all marveled. *

ἀνεῴχθη δὲ τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ παραχρῆμα καὶ ἡ γλῶσσα αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλάλει εὐλογῶν τὸν θεόν.
All'istante gli si aprì la bocca e gli si sciolse la lingua, e parlava benedicendo Dio.
* And his mouth was opened at once and his tongue, and he spoke blessingⓘ God. *

καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπὶ πάντας φόβος τοὺς περιοικοῦντας αὐτούς, καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ὀρεινῇ τῆς Ἰουδαίας διελαλεῖτο πάντα τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα,
Tutti i loro vicini furono presi da timore, e per tutta la regione montuosa della Giudea si discorreva di tutte queste cose.
* And fearⓘ came upon all their neighbors, and throughout all the hill country of Judeaⓘ all these words were being talked about, *

καὶ ἔθεντο πάντες οἱ ἀκούσαντες ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν, λέγοντες· Τί ἄρα τὸ παιδίον τοῦτο ἔσται; καὶ γὰρ χεὶρ κυρίου ἦν μετ' αὐτοῦ.
Tutti coloro che le udivano, le custodivano in cuor loro, dicendo: «Che sarà mai questo bambino?». E davvero la mano del Signore era con lui.
* and all who heard them laid them in their heartⓘ, saying: «What then shall this child be?». And indeed the handⓘ of the Lord was with him.
