Προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων περιπατεῖν ἐν στολαῖς καὶ φιλούντων ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ πρωτοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις,
«Guardatevi dagli scribi, che vogliono passeggiare in lunghe vesti e si compiacciono di essere salutati nelle piazze, di avere i primi seggi nelle sinagoghe e i primi posti nei banchetti;
«Beware of the scribes (soferim)ⓘ, who like to walk about in long robesⓘ and love the greetingsⓘ in the marketplaces, the chief seats in the synagoguesⓘ and the places of honor at banquetsⓘ.

οἳ κατεσθίουσιν τὰς οἰκίας τῶν χηρῶν καὶ προφάσει μακρὰ προσεύχονται· οὗτοι λήμψονται περισσότερον κρίμα.
