GreekΚαὶ ἰδοὺ νομικός τις ἀνέστη ἐκπειράζων ⸀αὐτὸν λέγων· Διδάσκαλε, τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω;

Orthodox ReadingAnd behold, an expert in the Torah (sofer) expert in the Torahⓘ stood up to put him to the test and said: «Master Masterⓘ, what must I do to inherit eternal lifeⓘ?».

Greekὁ δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν· Ἐν τῷ νόμῳ τί γέγραπται; πῶς ἀναγινώσκεις;

Greekὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Ἀγαπήσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου ἐξ ὅλης ⸀τῆς καρδίας σου καὶ ⸂ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ψυχῇ⸃ σου καὶ ⸂ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ἰσχύϊ⸃ σου καὶ ⸂ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ διανοίᾳ⸃ σου, καὶ τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν.

GreekὉ δὲ θέλων ⸀δικαιῶσαι ἑαυτὸν εἶπεν πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν· Καὶ τίς ἐστίν μου πλησίον;

Orthodox ReadingBut he, wishing to justify himselfⓘ, said to Jesus: «And who is my neighborⓘ?».

Greekὑπολαβὼν ⸀δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Ἄνθρωπός τις κατέβαινεν ἀπὸ Ἰερουσαλὴμ εἰς Ἰεριχὼ καὶ λῃσταῖς περιέπεσεν, οἳ καὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν καὶ πληγὰς ἐπιθέντες ἀπῆλθον ἀφέντες ⸀ἡμιθανῆ.

Orthodox ReadingJesus resumed: «A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among armed rebels (biryonim) armed rebelsⓘ, who stripped him, beat him, and went off leaving him half dead.

Greekὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Ὁ ποιήσας τὸ ἔλεος μετ’ αὐτοῦ. εἶπεν ⸀δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Πορεύου καὶ σὺ ποίει ὁμοίως.

Orthodox ReadingHe answered: «The one who showed mercy on himⓘ». And Jesus said to him: «Go and you too do likewiseⓘ».
