GreekΕἶπεν δὲ πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ· Ἀνένδεκτόν ἐστιν τοῦ τὰ σκάνδαλα μὴ ἐλθεῖν, πλὴν οὐαὶ δι' οὗ ἔρχεται·
Orthodox ReadingThen he said to his disciplesⓘ: «It is impossible that the stumbling-blocks should not comeⓘ — the scandalsⓘ will come —, but woeⓘ to him through whom they comeⓘ!

Greekλυσιτελεῖ αὐτῷ εἰ λίθος μυλικὸς περίκειται περὶ τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔρριπται εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν ἢ ἵνα σκανδαλίσῃ τῶν μικρῶν τούτων ἕνα.
Orthodox ReadingIt would be betterⓘ for him that a millstoneⓘ be put around his neckⓘ and that he be cast into the seaⓘ, rather than that he cause one of these little onesⓘ to stumble.

GreekΠροσέχετε ἑαυτοῖς. ἐὰν ἁμάρτῃ ὁ ἀδελφός σου ἐπιτίμησον αὐτῷ, καὶ ἐὰν μετανοήσῃ ἄφες αὐτῷ·
Orthodox ReadingPay attention to yourselvesⓘ: if your brotherⓘ sinsⓘ, rebuke him with the obligatory halakhic reproof (tochechah)ⓘ; and if he turns back, performing teshuvah, returnⓘ, forgive himⓘ the offense.

Greekκαὶ ἐὰν ἑπτάκις τῆς ἡμέρας ἁμαρτήσῃ εἰς σὲ καὶ ἑπτάκις ἐπιστρέψῃ πρὸς σὲ λέγων· Μετανοῶ, ἀφήσεις αὐτῷ.
Orthodox ReadingAnd if seven times a dayⓘ he sinsⓘ against you and seven times he turnsⓘ to you saying: «I repentⓘ», you shall forgive himⓘ» — forgiveness without limit, of which the «seventy times seven» of Mt 18:21-22 is the amplification.
