Εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς ⸀αὐτοῦ· Ἀνένδεκτόν ἐστιν τοῦ ⸂τὰ σκάνδαλα μὴ ἐλθεῖν⸃, ⸂πλὴν οὐαὶ⸃ δι’ οὗ ἔρχεται·
Disse ai suoi discepoli: «È inevitabile che vengano scandali, ma guai a colui per colpa del quale vengono.
He said to the disciples: «It is inevitable that stumbling-blocksⓘ should come, but woe to the one through whose fault they come.

λυσιτελεῖ αὐτῷ εἰ ⸂λίθος μυλικὸς⸃ περίκειται περὶ τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔρριπται εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν ἢ ἵνα σκανδαλίσῃ ⸂τῶν μικρῶν τούτων ἕνα⸃.
È meglio per lui che gli sia messa al collo una macina da mulino e venga gettato nel mare, piuttosto che scandalizzare uno solo di questi piccoli.
It would be better for him that a millstoneⓘ be hung around his neck and he be cast into the sea, rather than cause one of these little ones to stumbleⓘ.

προσέχετε ἑαυτοῖς. ἐὰν ⸀ἁμάρτῃ ὁ ἀδελφός σου ἐπιτίμησον αὐτῷ, καὶ ἐὰν μετανοήσῃ ἄφες αὐτῷ·
State attenti a voi stessi! Se il tuo fratello commetterà una colpa, rimproveralo; ma se si pentirà, perdonagli.
Be on your guard! If your brother commits a fault, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive himⓘ.

καὶ ἐὰν ἑπτάκις τῆς ἡμέρας ⸀ἁμαρτήσῃ εἰς σὲ καὶ ⸀ἑπτάκις ἐπιστρέψῃ ⸂πρὸς σὲ⸃ λέγων· Μετανοῶ, ἀφήσεις αὐτῷ.
E se commetterà una colpa contro di te sette volte al giorno e sette volte ritornerà a te dicendo: Sono pentito, tu gli perdonerai».
And if he sins against you seven times a day and seven times returns saying: I repent, forgive himⓘ».

Καὶ εἶπαν οἱ ἀπόστολοι τῷ κυρίῳ· Πρόσθες ἡμῖν πίστιν.
Gli apostoli dissero al Signore: «Accresci in noi la fede!».
The apostles: «Increase our faithⓘ!».

εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος· Εἰ ἔχετε πίστιν ὡς κόκκον σινάπεως, ἐλέγετε ἂν τῇ συκαμίνῳ ταύτῃ· Ἐκριζώθητι καὶ φυτεύθητι ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ· καὶ ὑπήκουσεν ἂν ὑμῖν.
Il Signore rispose: «Se aveste fede quanto un granello di senape, potreste dire a questo gelso: Sràdicati e vai a piantarti nel mare, ed esso vi obbedirebbe.
The Lord: «If you had faith like a mustard seedⓘ, you would say to this mulberry treeⓘ: Be uprooted and planted in the sea, and it would obey you» — the efficacy, not the quantity, of faith.

Τίς δὲ ἐξ ὑμῶν δοῦλον ἔχων ἀροτριῶντα ἢ ποιμαίνοντα, ὃς εἰσελθόντι ἐκ τοῦ ἀγροῦ ἐρεῖ ⸀αὐτῷ· Εὐθέως παρελθὼν ἀνάπεσε,
Chi di voi, se ha un servo ad arare o a pascolare il gregge, gli dirà, quando rientra dal campo: Vieni subito e mettiti a tavola?
«Who among you, having a servant plowing, will say to him when he comes in: Come at once to the table?

ἀλλ’ οὐχὶ ἐρεῖ αὐτῷ· Ἑτοίμασον τί δειπνήσω καὶ περιζωσάμενος διακόνει μοι ἕως φάγω καὶ πίω, καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα φάγεσαι καὶ πίεσαι σύ;
Non gli dirà piuttosto: Preparami da cena, stringiti le vesti ai fianchi e servimi, finché avrò mangiato e bevuto, e dopo mangerai e berrai tu?
Will he not rather say: Prepare my supper and serve meⓘ, and afterward you shall eat?

μὴ ⸂ἔχει χάριν⸃ τῷ ⸀δούλῳ ὅτι ἐποίησεν τὰ ⸀διαταχθέντα;
Avrà forse gratitudine verso quel servo, perché ha eseguito gli ordini ricevuti?
Will he be grateful to that servant because he carried out the orders?

οὕτως καὶ ὑμεῖς, ὅταν ποιήσητε πάντα τὰ διαταχθέντα ὑμῖν, λέγετε ὅτι Δοῦλοι ἀχρεῖοί ἐσμεν, ⸂ὃ ὠφείλομεν⸃ ποιῆσαι πεποιήκαμεν.
Così anche voi, quando avrete fatto tutto quello che vi è stato ordinato, dite: Siamo servi inutili. Abbiamo fatto quanto dovevamo fare».
So you too, when you have done all that was ordered you, say: We are unworthy servantsⓘ. We have done what we were obliged to do».
