Greekκαὶ διεγόγγυζον οἵ τε Φαρισαῖοι καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς λέγοντες ὅτι Οὗτος ἁμαρτωλοὺς προσδέχεται καὶ συνεσθίει αὐτοῖς.
Orthodox ReadingAnd both the Pharisees (the perushim, the observant ones set apart for purity) and the scribes (the soferim, the learned in the Torah) were murmuring among themselves, saying: «This man welcomesⓘ sinnersⓘ and eats with themⓘ».

Orthodox Reading«What manⓘ among you, having a hundred sheepⓘ and having lost one of themⓘ, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wildernessⓘ and go after the lost oneⓘ until he finds it?

Greekκαὶ εὑρὼν ἐπιτίθησιν ἐπὶ τοὺς ὤμους αὐτοῦ χαίρων

Greekκαὶ ἐλθὼν εἰς τὸν οἶκον συγκαλεῖ τοὺς φίλους καὶ τοὺς γείτονας λέγων αὐτοῖς· Συγχάρητέ μοι, ὅτι εὗρον τὸ πρόβατόν μου τὸ ἀπολωλός.
Orthodox Readingand having come home he calls togetherⓘ his friends and neighbors, saying to them: Rejoice with meⓘ, for I have found my sheep, the one that was lost.

Greekλέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὕτως χαρὰ ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ ἔσται ἐπὶ ἑνὶ ἁμαρτωλῷ μετανοοῦντι ἢ ἐπὶ ἐνενήκοντα ἐννέα δικαίοις οἵτινες οὐ χρείαν ἔχουσιν μετανοίας.
Orthodox ReadingI tell youⓘ that in the same way there will be joy in heavenⓘ over one single sinner who repentsⓘ, more than over ninety-nine righteous onesⓘ who have no need of repentanceⓘ».
