Τῇ δὲ Ἐλισάβετ ἐπλήσθη ὁ χρόνος τοῦ τεκεῖν αὐτήν, καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱόν.
Per Elisabetta intanto si compì il tempo del parto e diede alla luce un figlio.
Meanwhile the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son.

καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ περίοικοι καὶ οἱ συγγενεῖς αὐτῆς ὅτι ἐμεγάλυνεν κύριος τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτῆς, καὶ συνέχαιρον αὐτῇ.
I vicini e i parenti udirono che il Signore aveva manifestato in lei la sua grande misericordia, e si rallegravano con lei.
Her ⓘ heard that the Lord had shown her his great ⓘ, and they ⓘ with her.

Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ ⸂ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ὀγδόῃ⸃ ἦλθον περιτεμεῖν τὸ παιδίον, καὶ ἐκάλουν αὐτὸ ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ Ζαχαρίαν.
Otto giorni dopo vennero per circoncidere il bambino e volevano chiamarlo con il nome di suo padre, Zaccaria.
And it happened that on the eighth day they came to perform the circumcision of the child, the brit milah ⓘ, and they wanted to call him by the name of his father, Zechariah.

καὶ ἀποκριθεῖσα ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ εἶπεν· Οὐχί, ἀλλὰ κληθήσεται Ἰωάννης.
Ma sua madre intervenne: «No, si chiamerà Giovanni».
But his mother intervened: «No, he shall be called ⓘ».

καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτὴν ὅτι Οὐδείς ἐστιν ⸂ἐκ τῆς συγγενείας⸃ σου ὃς καλεῖται τῷ ὀνόματι τούτῳ.
Le dissero: «Non c'è nessuno della tua parentela che porti questo nome».
They said to her: «There is no one among your relatives who bears this name».

ἐνένευον δὲ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ τὸ τί ἂν θέλοι καλεῖσθαι ⸀αὐτό.
Allora domandavano con cenni a suo padre come voleva che si chiamasse.

καὶ αἰτήσας πινακίδιον ἔγραψεν λέγων· Ἰωάννης ⸀ἐστὶν ὄνομα αὐτοῦ. καὶ ἐθαύμασαν πάντες.
Egli chiese una tavoletta e scrisse: «Giovanni è il suo nome». Tutti rimasero meravigliati.
He asked for a ⓘ and wrote: «John is his name». All were astonished.

ἀνεῴχθη δὲ τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ παραχρῆμα καὶ ἡ γλῶσσα αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλάλει εὐλογῶν τὸν θεόν.
All'istante gli si aprì la bocca e gli si sciolse la lingua, e parlava benedicendo Dio.
At once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God, uttering the berakhah ⓘ.

καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπὶ πάντας φόβος τοὺς περιοικοῦντας αὐτούς, καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ὀρεινῇ τῆς Ἰουδαίας διελαλεῖτο πάντα τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα,
Tutti i loro vicini furono presi da timore, e per tutta la regione montuosa della Giudea si discorreva di tutte queste cose.
All their neighbors were seized with ⓘ, and throughout the whole ⓘ all these things were being talked about.

καὶ ἔθεντο πάντες οἱ ἀκούσαντες ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν, λέγοντες· Τί ἄρα τὸ παιδίον τοῦτο ἔσται; καὶ ⸀γὰρ χεὶρ κυρίου ἦν μετ’ αὐτοῦ.
Quanti le udivano le custodivano nel loro cuore, dicendo: «Che sarà mai questo bambino?». E davvero la mano del Signore era con lui.
All who heard them ⓘ, saying: «What then will this child be?». And indeed the ⓘ was with him.

Καὶ Ζαχαρίας ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ ἐπλήσθη πνεύματος ἁγίου καὶ ⸀ἐπροφήτευσεν λέγων·
Zaccaria, suo padre, fu colmato di Spirito Santo e profetò dicendo:
Zechariah, his father, was filled with the ⓘ and prophesied, saying:

Εὐλογητὸς κύριος ὁ θεὸς τοῦ Ἰσραήλ, ὅτι ἐπεσκέψατο καὶ ἐποίησεν λύτρωσιν τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ,
«Benedetto il Signore, Dio d'Israele, perché ha visitato e redento il suo popolo,
«ⓘ, for he has ⓘ for his people,

καὶ ἤγειρεν κέρας σωτηρίας ἡμῖν ⸀ἐν οἴκῳ ⸀Δαυὶδ παιδὸς αὐτοῦ,
e ha suscitato per noi un corno di salvezza nella casa di Davide, suo servo,
and has raised up for us a ⓘ in the ⓘ, his servant,

καθὼς ἐλάλησεν διὰ στόματος τῶν ⸀ἁγίων ἀπ’ αἰῶνος προφητῶν αὐτοῦ,
come aveva detto per bocca dei suoi santi profeti d'un tempo:
as he had said through the ⓘ:

σωτηρίαν ἐξ ἐχθρῶν ἡμῶν καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς πάντων τῶν μισούντων ἡμᾶς,
salvezza dai nostri nemici e dalle mani di quanti ci odiano.
salvation from our enemies and from the hands of all who hate us.

ποιῆσαι ἔλεος μετὰ τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν καὶ μνησθῆναι διαθήκης ἁγίας αὐτοῦ,
Così egli ha concesso misericordia ai nostri padri e si è ricordato della sua santa alleanza,
Thus he has granted ⓘ and has ⓘ,

ὅρκον ὃν ὤμοσεν πρὸς Ἀβραὰμ τὸν πατέρα ἡμῶν, τοῦ δοῦναι ἡμῖν
del giuramento fatto ad Abramo, nostro padre, di concederci,
the ⓘ, our father, to grant us,

ἀφόβως ἐκ χειρὸς ⸀ἐχθρῶν ῥυσθέντας λατρεύειν αὐτῷ
liberati dalle mani dei nemici, di servirlo senza timore,
delivered from the hands of our enemies, to serve him in worship, the avodah ⓘ, without fear,

ἐν ὁσιότητι καὶ δικαιοσύνῃ ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ ⸂πάσαις ταῖς ἡμέραις⸃ ἡμῶν.

καὶ σὺ ⸀δέ, παιδίον, προφήτης Ὑψίστου κληθήσῃ, προπορεύσῃ γὰρ ⸀ἐνώπιον κυρίου ἑτοιμάσαι ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ,
E tu, bambino, sarai chiamato profeta dell'Altissimo, perché andrai innanzi al Signore a preparargli le strade,
And you, child, shall be called ⓘ, for you shall go before the Lord to ⓘ,

τοῦ δοῦναι γνῶσιν σωτηρίας τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ ἐν ἀφέσει ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν,
per dare al suo popolo la conoscenza della salvezza nel perdono dei suoi peccati,
to give his people the ⓘ in the ⓘ,

διὰ σπλάγχνα ἐλέους θεοῦ ἡμῶν, ἐν οἷς ⸀ἐπισκέψεται ἡμᾶς ἀνατολὴ ἐξ ὕψους,
grazie alla tenera misericordia del nostro Dio, per cui ci visiterà un sole che sorge dall'alto,
through the ⓘ of our God, by which a ⓘ will visit us,

ἐπιφᾶναι τοῖς ἐν σκότει καὶ σκιᾷ θανάτου καθημένοις, τοῦ κατευθῦναι τοὺς πόδας ἡμῶν εἰς ὁδὸν εἰρήνης.
per risplendere su quelli che stanno nelle tenebre e nell'ombra di morte, e dirigere i nostri passi sulla via della pace».
to ⓘ, and to guide our steps into the ⓘ».

Τὸ δὲ παιδίον ηὔξανε καὶ ἐκραταιοῦτο πνεύματι, καὶ ἦν ἐν ταῖς ἐρήμοις ἕως ἡμέρας ἀναδείξεως αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὸν Ἰσραήλ.
Il bambino cresceva e si fortificava nello spirito. Visse in regioni deserte fino al giorno della sua manifestazione a Israele.
The child grew and ⓘ. He lived in the desolate regions until the day of his ⓘ.
