⸀Ἐπειδὴ ἐπλήρωσεν πάντα τὰ ῥήματα αὐτοῦ εἰς τὰς ἀκοὰς τοῦ λαοῦ, εἰσῆλθεν εἰς Καφαρναούμ.
Quando ebbe terminato di rivolgere tutte le sue parole al popolo che stava in ascolto, entrò in Cafàrnao.
When he had finished addressing all his words to the people, he enteredⓘ Capernaum.

Ἑκατοντάρχου δέ τινος δοῦλος κακῶς ἔχων ἤμελλεν τελευτᾶν, ὃς ἦν αὐτῷ ἔντιμος.
Il servo di un centurione era ammalato e stava per morire. Il centurione lo stimava molto.
The servant of a centurionⓘ was sick and about to die. The centurion valued him greatly.

ἀκούσας δὲ περὶ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς αὐτὸν πρεσβυτέρους τῶν Ἰουδαίων, ἐρωτῶν αὐτὸν ὅπως ἐλθὼν διασώσῃ τὸν δοῦλον αὐτοῦ.
Perciò, avendo udito parlare di Gesù, gli mandò alcuni anziani dei Giudei a pregarlo di venire e di salvare il suo servo.
So, having heard about Jesus, he sent some elders (zeqenim) of the Jewsⓘ to plead with him to comeⓘ.

οἱ δὲ παραγενόμενοι πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν παρεκάλουν αὐτὸν σπουδαίως λέγοντες ὅτι Ἄξιός ἐστιν ᾧ ⸀παρέξῃ τοῦτο,
Costoro, giunti da Gesù, lo supplicavano con insistenza: «Egli merita che tu gli conceda quello che chiede,
They begged him: «He deserves that you grant him this,

ἀγαπᾷ γὰρ τὸ ἔθνος ἡμῶν καὶ τὴν συναγωγὴν αὐτὸς ᾠκοδόμησεν ἡμῖν.
perché ama il nostro popolo ed è stato lui a costruirci la sinagoga».
for he loves our people and it was he who built for us the house of assembly for the reading of the Torah (beit knesset) house of assemblyⓘ».

ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἐπορεύετο σὺν αὐτοῖς. ἤδη δὲ αὐτοῦ οὐ μακρὰν ἀπέχοντος ἀπὸ τῆς οἰκίας ἔπεμψεν ⸂φίλους ὁ ἑκατοντάρχης⸃ λέγων αὐτῷ· Κύριε, μὴ σκύλλου, οὐ γὰρ ⸂ἱκανός εἰμι⸃ ἵνα ὑπὸ τὴν στέγην μου εἰσέλθῃς·
Gesù si incamminò con loro. Non era ormai molto distante dalla casa, quando il centurione mandò alcuni amici a dirgli: «Signore, non disturbarti! Io non sono degno che tu entri sotto il mio tetto;
Jesus set out with themⓘ. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent some friends to say to him: «Lord, do not trouble yourself! I am not worthy that you should enter under my roofⓘ;

διὸ οὐδὲ ἐμαυτὸν ἠξίωσα πρὸς σὲ ἐλθεῖν· ἀλλὰ εἰπὲ λόγῳ, καὶ ⸀ἰαθήτω ὁ παῖς μου·
per questo io stesso non mi sono ritenuto degno di venire da te; ma di' una parola e il mio servo sarà guarito.
for this reason I did not consider myself worthy to come to you; but say a word and my servant will be healedⓘ.

καὶ γὰρ ἐγὼ ἄνθρωπός εἰμι ὑπὸ ἐξουσίαν τασσόμενος, ἔχων ὑπ’ ἐμαυτὸν στρατιώτας, καὶ λέγω τούτῳ· Πορεύθητι, καὶ πορεύεται, καὶ ἄλλῳ· Ἔρχου, καὶ ἔρχεται, καὶ τῷ δούλῳ μου· Ποίησον τοῦτο, καὶ ποιεῖ.
Anch'io infatti sono uomo sottoposto a un'autorità e ho dei soldati sotto di me e dico a uno: Va', ed egli va; e a un altro: Vieni, ed egli viene; e al mio servo: Fa' questo, ed egli lo fa».
I too am a man subject to authorityⓘ and I have soldiers under me: I say to one: Goⓘ, and he goes; and to another: Come, and he comes».

ἀκούσας δὲ ταῦτα ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐθαύμασεν αὐτόν, καὶ στραφεὶς τῷ ἀκολουθοῦντι αὐτῷ ὄχλῳ εἶπεν· Λέγω ὑμῖν, ⸀οὐδὲ ἐν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ τοσαύτην πίστιν εὗρον.
All'udire questo, Gesù lo ammirò e, volgendosi alla folla che lo seguiva, disse: «Io vi dico che neanche in Israele ho trovato una fede così grande!».
On hearing this, Jesus marveled at himⓘ and, turning to the crowdⓘ that was following him, said: «I tell you that not even in Israel have I found such great faithⓘ!».

καὶ ὑποστρέψαντες ⸂εἰς τὸν οἶκον οἱ πεμφθέντες⸃ εὗρον ⸀τὸν δοῦλον ὑγιαίνοντα.
E gli inviati, quando tornarono a casa, trovarono il servo guarito.
And the envoysⓘ, returning home, found the servant healed.

Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἑξῆς ⸀ἐπορεύθη εἰς πόλιν καλουμένην Ναΐν, καὶ συνεπορεύοντο αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ ⸀αὐτοῦ καὶ ὄχλος πολύς.
In seguito Gesù si recò in una città chiamata Nain, e con lui camminavano i suoi discepoli e una grande folla.
Afterward Jesus went to a town called Nainⓘ, and his disciples were going with himⓘ and a large crowdⓘ.

ὡς δὲ ἤγγισεν τῇ πύλῃ τῆς πόλεως, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐξεκομίζετο τεθνηκὼς ⸂μονογενὴς υἱὸς⸃ τῇ μητρὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ αὐτὴ ⸀ἦν χήρα, καὶ ὄχλος τῆς πόλεως ἱκανὸς ⸁ἦν σὺν αὐτῇ.
Quando fu vicino alla porta della città, ecco, veniva portato alla tomba un morto, figlio unico di una madre rimasta vedova; e molta gente della città era con lei.
Near the town gate, beholdⓘ, a dead man was being carried out to the tomb, the only son of a mother who was now a widowⓘ; and a large crowd was with her.

καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὴν ὁ κύριος ἐσπλαγχνίσθη ἐπ’ αὐτῇ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ· Μὴ κλαῖε.
Vedendola, il Signore fu preso da grande compassione per lei e le disse: «Non piangere!».
Seeing her, the Lord was moved with deep compassionⓘ and said to her: «Do not weep!».

καὶ προσελθὼν ἥψατο τῆς σοροῦ, οἱ δὲ βαστάζοντες ἔστησαν, καὶ εἶπεν· Νεανίσκε, σοὶ λέγω, ἐγέρθητι.
Si avvicinò e toccò la bara, mentre i portatori si fermarono. Poi disse: «Ragazzo, dico a te, àlzati!».
He drew near and touched the bier, contracting corpse impurity (tum'at met) he touched the bierⓘ, and said: «Young man, I say to you, ariseⓘ!».

καὶ ἀνεκάθισεν ὁ νεκρὸς καὶ ἤρξατο λαλεῖν, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὸν τῇ μητρὶ αὐτοῦ.
Il morto si mise seduto e cominciò a parlare. Ed egli lo restituì a sua madre.
The dead man sat up and began to speak. And he gave him back to his motherⓘ.

ἔλαβεν δὲ φόβος πάντας, καὶ ἐδόξαζον τὸν θεὸν λέγοντες ὅτι Προφήτης μέγας ⸀ἠγέρθη ἐν ἡμῖν, καὶ ὅτι Ἐπεσκέψατο ὁ θεὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ.
Tutti furono presi da timore e glorificavano Dio dicendo: «Un grande profeta è sorto tra noi» e «Dio ha visitato il suo popolo».
All were seized with fearⓘ and glorified God, saying: «A great prophet has arisen among usⓘ» and «God has visited his peopleⓘ».

καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ λόγος οὗτος ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ περὶ αὐτοῦ ⸀καὶ πάσῃ τῇ περιχώρῳ.
E questa fama di lui si diffuse per tutta quanta la Giudea e in tutta la regione circostante.
And this report spread throughout the whole of Judeaⓘ.
