GreekΚαὶ ποιμένες ἦσαν ἐν τῇ χώρᾳ τῇ αὐτῇ ἀγραυλοῦντες καὶ φυλάσσοντες φυλακὰς τῆς νυκτὸς ἐπὶ τὴν ποίμνην αὐτῶν.
Orthodox ReadingAnd there were shepherdsⓘ in that same region, who kept watch in the openⓘ and stood guard by nightⓘ over their flock.

Greekκαὶ ἄγγελος κυρίου ἐπέστη αὐτοῖς καὶ δόξα κυρίου περιέλαμψεν αὐτούς, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν φόβον μέγαν.
Orthodox ReadingAnd behold, an angel of the Lordⓘ stood before them and the glory of the Lordⓘ enveloped them in light, and they feared with a great fearⓘ.

Greekκαὶ τοῦτο ὑμῖν τὸ σημεῖον, εὑρήσετε βρέφος ἐσπαργανωμένον καὶ κείμενον ἐν φάτνῃ.
Orthodox ReadingAnd this is for you the signⓘ: you shall find an infantⓘ wrapped in swaddling bandsⓘ and laid in a manger».

Greekκαὶ ἐξαίφνης ἐγένετο σὺν τῷ ἀγγέλῳ πλῆθος στρατιᾶς οὐρανίου αἰνούντων τὸν θεὸν καὶ λεγόντων·

GreekΚαὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἀπῆλθον ἀπ' αὐτῶν εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν οἱ ἄγγελοι, οἱ ποιμένες ἐλάλουν πρὸς ἀλλήλους· Διέλθωμεν δὴ ἕως Βηθλέεμ καὶ ἴδωμεν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο τὸ γεγονὸς ὃ ὁ κύριος ἐγνώρισεν ἡμῖν.
Orthodox ReadingAnd it came to pass that, as the angelsⓘ departed from them toward heaven, the shepherds said to one another: «Let us go as far as Bethlehemⓘ and see this happeningⓘ that the Lord has made known to us».

Greekκαὶ ἦλθαν σπεύσαντες καὶ ἀνεῦραν τήν τε Μαριὰμ καὶ τὸν Ἰωσὴφ καὶ τὸ βρέφος κείμενον ἐν τῇ φάτνῃ.

Greekἡ δὲ Μαριὰμ πάντα συνετήρει τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα συμβάλλουσα ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτῆς.

Greekκαὶ ὑπέστρεψαν οἱ ποιμένες δοξάζοντες καὶ αἰνοῦντες τὸν θεὸν ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἷς ἤκουσαν καὶ εἶδον καθὼς ἐλαλήθη πρὸς αὐτούς.
Orthodox ReadingAnd the shepherds returned, glorifying and praisingⓘ God for all that they had heard and seen, just as it had been told them.
