Πιλᾶτος δὲ ἀκούσας ἐπηρώτησεν εἰ ὁ ἄνθρωπος Γαλιλαῖός ἐστιν,
Udito ciò, Pilato domandò se quell'uomo era Galileo
And Pilate, hearing this, asked whether the man was a Galilean .

καὶ ἐπιγνοὺς ὅτι ἐκ τῆς ἐξουσίας Ἡρῴδου ἐστὶν ἀνέπεμψεν αὐτὸν πρὸς Ἡρῴδην, ὄντα καὶ αὐτὸν ἐν Ἱεροσολύμοις ἐν ταύταις ταῖς ἡμέραις.
e, saputo che stava sotto l'autorità di Erode, lo rinviò a Erode, che in quei giorni si trovava anch'egli a Gerusalemme.
And, having ascertained that he was under the jurisdiction of Herod , he sent him back to Herod, who was himself also at Jerusalem in those days.

ὁ δὲ Ἡρῴδης ἰδὼν τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἐχάρη λίαν, ἦν γὰρ ἐξ ἱκανῶν χρόνων θέλων ἰδεῖν αὐτὸν διὰ τὸ ἀκούειν περὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἤλπιζέν τι σημεῖον ἰδεῖν ὑπ' αὐτοῦ γινόμενον.
Vedendo Gesù, Erode si rallegrò molto. Da molto tempo infatti desiderava vederlo, per averne sentito parlare, e sperava di vedere qualche miracolo fatto da lui.
And Herod, seeing Jesus, rejoiced greatly , for he had long enough desired to see him on account of what he heard concerning him, and he hoped to see some sign performed by him.

ἐπηρώτα δὲ αὐτὸν ἐν λόγοις ἱκανοῖς, αὐτὸς δὲ οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίνατο αὐτῷ.
Lo interrogò, facendogli molte domande, ma egli non gli rispose nulla.
And he questioned him with many words, but he answered him nothing .

εἱστήκεισαν δὲ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς εὐτόνως κατηγοροῦντες αὐτοῦ.
Erano presenti anche i capi dei sacerdoti e gli scribi, e insistevano nell'accusarlo.
And there stood the chief priests (the archiereîs, kohanim of the temple summit) and the scribes (the soferim, experts of the Torah) , and vehemently accusing him .

ἐξουθενήσας δὲ αὐτὸν [καὶ] ὁ Ἡρῴδης σὺν τοῖς στρατεύμασιν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐμπαίξας περιβαλὼν ἐσθῆτα λαμπρὰν ἀνέπεμψεν αὐτὸν τῷ Πιλάτῳ.
Allora anche Erode, con i suoi soldati, lo insultò, si fece beffe di lui, gli mise addosso una splendida veste e lo rimandò a Pilato.
And Herod, after treating him with contempt together with his troops and mocking him, having thrown a splendid robe upon him , he sent him back to Pilate.

ἐγένοντο δὲ φίλοι ὅ τε Ἡρῴδης καὶ ὁ Πιλᾶτος ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ μετ' ἀλλήλων· προϋπῆρχον γὰρ ἐν ἔχθρᾳ ὄντες πρὸς αὑτούς.
In quel giorno Erode e Pilato diventarono amici tra loro; prima infatti tra loro vi era stata inimicizia.
And on that same day Herod and Pilate became friends with each other; for before they had been at enmity one with another .
