Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἶναι αὐτὸν προσευχόμενον κατὰ μόνας συνῆσαν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταί, καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς λέγων· Τίνα με λέγουσιν οἱ ὄχλοι εἶναι;

Un giorno Gesù si trovava in un luogo solitario a pregare. I discepoli erano con lui ed egli pose loro questa domanda: «Le folle, chi dicono che io sia?».

And it came to passⓘ that, while he was praying aloneⓘ, the disciplesⓘ were with him, and he questioned them, saying: «Who do the crowdsⓘ say that I am?».

οἱ δὲ ἀποκριθέντες εἶπαν· Ἰωάννην τὸν βαπτιστήν, ἄλλοι δὲ Ἠλίαν, ἄλλοι δὲ ὅτι προφήτης τις τῶν ἀρχαίων ἀνέστη.

Essi risposero: «Giovanni il Battista; altri dicono Elia; altri uno degli antichi profeti che è risorto».

They, answering, saidⓘ: «John the Baptist; others Elijahⓘ; others that one of the ancient prophets has risenⓘ».

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς· Ὑμεῖς δὲ τίνα με λέγετε εἶναι; Πέτρος δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Τὸν χριστὸν τοῦ θεοῦ.

Allora domandò loro: «Ma voi, chi dite che io sia?». Pietro rispose: «Il Cristo di Dio».

He said to them: «But you, who do you say that I am?». And Peterⓘ, answering, saidⓘ: «The Messiah of Godⓘ».

Ὁ δὲ ἐπιτιμήσας αὐτοῖς παρήγγειλεν μηδενὶ λέγειν τοῦτο

Egli ordinò loro severamente di non riferirlo ad alcuno.

And he, sternly admonishing themⓘ, ordered them to tell this to no one,

εἰπὼν ὅτι Δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πολλὰ παθεῖν καὶ ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ ἀρχιερέων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ἀποκτανθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἐγερθῆναι.

«Il Figlio dell'uomo – disse – deve soffrire molto, essere rifiutato dagli anziani, dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi, venire ucciso e risorgere il terzo giorno».

saying: «It is necessaryⓘ that the Son of Manⓘ sufferⓘ much and be rejectedⓘ by the elders (zeqenim)ⓘ and by the kohanim of the temple summitⓘ and by the scribesⓘ, and be killed, and on the third dayⓘ be raisedⓘ».
