Εἶπεν δὲ ⸀καὶ πρός τινας τοὺς πεποιθότας ἐφ’ ἑαυτοῖς ὅτι εἰσὶν δίκαιοι καὶ ἐξουθενοῦντας τοὺς λοιποὺς τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην·
Disse ancora questa parabola per alcuni che avevano l'intima presunzione di essere giusti e disprezzavano gli altri:
He told this parable for some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised othersⓘ:

Ἄνθρωποι δύο ἀνέβησαν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν προσεύξασθαι, ⸀ὁ εἷς Φαρισαῖος καὶ ὁ ἕτερος τελώνης.
«Due uomini salirono al tempio a pregare: uno era fariseo e l'altro pubblicano.
«Two men went up to the temple to prayⓘ, one a Pharisee (perushim)ⓘ and the other a tax collectorⓘ.

ὁ Φαρισαῖος σταθεὶς ⸂πρὸς ἑαυτὸν ταῦτα⸃ προσηύχετο· Ὁ θεός, εὐχαριστῶ σοι ὅτι οὐκ εἰμὶ ⸀ὥσπερ οἱ λοιποὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ἅρπαγες, ἄδικοι, μοιχοί, ἢ καὶ ὡς οὗτος ὁ τελώνης·
Il fariseo, stando in piedi, pregava così tra sé: O Dio, ti ringrazio perché non sono come gli altri uomini, ladri, ingiusti, adùlteri, e neppure come questo pubblicano.
The Pharisee, standing, prayed thus to himself: O God, I thank you that I am not like other men, robbers, unjust, adulterersⓘ, or even like this tax collector.

νηστεύω δὶς τοῦ σαββάτου, ⸀ἀποδεκατῶ πάντα ὅσα κτῶμαι.
Digiuno due volte alla settimana e pago le decime di tutto quello che possiedo.
I fast twice a week, I give a tithe of all I possessⓘ.

⸂ὁ δὲ⸃ τελώνης μακρόθεν ἑστὼς οὐκ ἤθελεν οὐδὲ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ⸂ἐπᾶραι εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν⸃, ἀλλ’ ⸀ἔτυπτε τὸ στῆθος ⸀αὐτοῦ λέγων· Ὁ θεός, ἱλάσθητί μοι τῷ ἁμαρτωλῷ.
Il pubblicano invece, fermatosi a distanza, non osava nemmeno alzare gli occhi al cielo, ma si batteva il petto dicendo: O Dio, abbi pietà di me peccatore.
The tax collector, however, standing at a distance, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breastⓘ saying: O God, be merciful to me a sinnerⓘ.

λέγω ὑμῖν, κατέβη οὗτος δεδικαιωμένος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ ⸂παρ’ ἐκεῖνον⸃· ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ὑψῶν ἑαυτὸν ταπεινωθήσεται, ὁ δὲ ταπεινῶν ἑαυτὸν ὑψωθήσεται.
Io vi dico: questi, a differenza dell'altro, tornò a casa sua giustificato, perché chiunque si esalta sarà umiliato, chi invece si umilia sarà esaltato».
I tell you: this man went down to his house justifiedⓘ, rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exaltedⓘ».
