Καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἐξῆλθεν καὶ ἐθεάσατο τελώνην ὀνόματι Λευὶν καθήμενον ἐπὶ τὸ τελώνιον, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἀκολούθει μοι.
Dopo questo egli uscì e vide un pubblicano di nome Levi, seduto al banco delle imposte, e gli disse: «Seguimi!».
And after these things he went out and fixed his gaze upon a tax collector tax collectorⓘ, named Levi, seated at the tax booth tax boothⓘ, and he said to him: «Follow me» Follow meⓘ.

καὶ καταλιπὼν πάντα ἀναστὰς ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ.
Ed egli, lasciando tutto, si alzò e lo seguì.
And he, having left everything, rose and was following him was following himⓘ.

Καὶ ἐποίησεν δοχὴν μεγάλην Λευὶς αὐτῷ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἦν ὄχλος πολὺς τελωνῶν καὶ ἄλλων οἳ ἦσαν μετ' αὐτῶν κατακείμενοι.
Poi Levi gli preparò un grande banchetto nella sua casa. C'era una folla numerosa di pubblicani e di altra gente, che erano con loro a tavola.
And Levi prepared for him a great banquet banquetⓘ in his house; and there was present a large crowd of tax collectors tax collectorsⓘ and of other non-observant common folk (am ha-aretz) am ha-aretzⓘ who were reclining at table reclining at tableⓘ with them, the taharah (ritual purity) taharahⓘ of the feast being at stake.

καὶ ἐγόγγυζον οἱ Φαρισαῖοι καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· Διὰ τί μετὰ τῶν τελωνῶν καὶ ἁμαρτωλῶν ἐσθίετε καὶ πίνετε;
I farisei e i loro scribi mormoravano e dicevano ai suoi discepoli: «Come mai mangiate e bevete insieme ai pubblicani e ai peccatori?».
And the perushim (the Pharisees, the observant ones separated by scruple of purity) perushimⓘ and their soferim (the scribes, the masters of the writing) soferimⓘ were murmuring murmuringⓘ, addressing his disciples disciplesⓘ and saying: «Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and the sinners sinnersⓘ?».

καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Οὐ χρείαν ἔχουσιν οἱ ὑγιαίνοντες ἰατροῦ ἀλλὰ οἱ κακῶς ἔχοντες·
Gesù rispose loro: «Non sono i sani che hanno bisogno del medico, ma i malati;
And Jesus, answering, said to them: «Those who are healthy have no need of the physician physicianⓘ, but those who are ill;

οὐκ ἐλήλυθα καλέσαι δικαίους ἀλλὰ ἁμαρτωλοὺς εἰς μετάνοιαν.
io non sono venuto a chiamare i giusti, ma i peccatori perché si convertano».
I have not come to call the righteous righteousⓘ, but the sinners to teshuvah (conversion) teshuvahⓘ, to the return».
