Greekκἀκεῖνος ἔσωθεν ἀποκριθεὶς εἴπῃ· Μή μοι κόπους πάρεχε· ἤδη ἡ θύρα κέκλεισται καὶ τὰ παιδία μου μετ' ἐμοῦ εἰς τὴν κοίτην εἰσίν· οὐ δύναμαι ἀναστὰς δοῦναί σοι.
Gnostic Translatione se quello dall'interno gli risponde: 'Non m'importunare, la porta è già chiusa, io e i miei bambini siamo a letto, non posso alzarmi per darti i pani',
Orthodox Readingand that one, from within, answering will say: 'Do not cause me troubleⓘ: the door has already been shutⓘ and my childrenⓘ are with me in bed; I cannot rise to give you any'.

Greekλέγω ὑμῖν, εἰ καὶ οὐ δώσει αὐτῷ ἀναστὰς διὰ τὸ εἶναι φίλον αὐτοῦ, διά γε τὴν ἀναίδειαν αὐτοῦ ἐγερθεὶς δώσει αὐτῷ ὅσων χρῄζει.
Gnostic Translationvi dico che, anche se non si alzerà a darglieli perché è suo amico, almeno per la sua invadenza si alzerà a dargliene quanti gliene occorrono.
Orthodox ReadingI tell you: even if he will not rise to give him any because he is his friend, on account of his importunate persistenceⓘ, once roused, he will give him as many as he needs.

GreekΚἀγὼ ὑμῖν λέγω, αἰτεῖτε καὶ δοθήσεται ὑμῖν, ζητεῖτε καὶ εὑρήσετε, κρούετε καὶ ἀνοιγήσεται ὑμῖν·
Gnostic TranslationEbbene, io vi dico: chiedete e vi sarà dato, cercate e troverete, bussate e vi sarà aperto.

Greekπᾶς γὰρ ὁ αἰτῶν λαμβάνει καὶ ὁ ζητῶν εὑρίσκει καὶ τῷ κρούοντι ἀνοιγήσεται.
Gnostic TranslationPerché chiunque chiede riceve e chi cerca trova e a chi bussa sarà aperto.

Greekτίνα δὲ ἐξ ὑμῶν τὸν πατέρα αἰτήσει ὁ υἱὸς ἰχθύν, καὶ ἀντὶ ἰχθύος ὄφιν αὐτῷ ἐπιδώσει;
Gnostic TranslationQuale padre tra voi, se il figlio gli chiede un pesce, gli darà una serpe al posto del pesce?

Greekεἰ οὖν ὑμεῖς πονηροὶ ὑπάρχοντες οἴδατε δόματα ἀγαθὰ διδόναι τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν, πόσῳ μᾶλλον ὁ πατὴρ [ὁ] ἐξ οὐρανοῦ δώσει πνεῦμα ἅγιον τοῖς αἰτοῦσιν αὐτόν.
Gnostic TranslationSe voi dunque, che siete cattivi, sapete dare cose buone ai vostri figli, quanto più il Padre vostro del cielo darà lo Spirito Santo a quelli che glielo chiedono!».
Orthodox ReadingIf therefore you, though being evilⓘ, know how to give good giftsⓘ to your childrenⓘ, how much more will the Fatherⓘ give the Holy Spiritⓘ to those who askⓘ him for it!».
