Εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς· Πῶς λέγουσιν τὸν χριστὸν ⸂εἶναι Δαυὶδ υἱόν⸃;
Allora egli disse loro: «Come mai si dice che il Cristo è figlio di Davide?
He said: «How can it be said that the Christ, the Mashiach,ⓘ is the son of David?

⸂αὐτὸς γὰρ⸃ Δαυὶδ λέγει ἐν βίβλῳ ψαλμῶν· ⸀Εἶπεν κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου· Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου
Davide stesso, nel libro dei Salmi, dice: Disse il Signore al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra,
David himself, in the book of Psalms (Sefer Tehillim)ⓘ, says: The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right handⓘ,

ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου.
finché io ponga i tuoi nemici a sgabello dei tuoi piedi.
until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.

Δαυὶδ οὖν ⸂αὐτὸν κύριον⸃ καλεῖ, καὶ πῶς ⸂αὐτοῦ υἱός⸃ ἐστιν;
Davide dunque lo chiama Signore; perciò, come può essere suo figlio?».
David therefore calls him Lord; how then can he be his sonⓘ?».

Ἀκούοντος δὲ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ εἶπεν τοῖς ⸀μαθηταῖς·
Mentre tutto il popolo ascoltava, disse ai suoi discepoli:
While all the people (kol ha-am) were listening, he said to his disciplesⓘ:

Προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων περιπατεῖν ἐν στολαῖς καὶ φιλούντων ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ πρωτοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις,
«Guardatevi dagli scribi, che amano passeggiare in lunghe vesti e si compiacciono di essere salutati nelle piazze, dei primi seggi nelle sinagoghe e dei primi posti nei banchetti;
«Beware of the scribes (soferim) scribesⓘ, who love to walk about in long robesⓘ and to be greeted in the marketplacesⓘ, who seek the chief seats in the synagogues (bet ha-knesset) synagoguesⓘ and the places of honor at the banquetsⓘ;

οἳ κατεσθίουσιν τὰς οἰκίας τῶν χηρῶν καὶ προφάσει μακρὰ προσεύχονται· οὗτοι λήμψονται περισσότερον κρίμα.
divorano le case delle vedove e ostentano di pregare a lungo. Essi riceveranno una condanna più severa».
they devour the houses of widowsⓘ and for a pretense they make long prayers (the prolonged tefillah) they pray at lengthⓘ. They will receive a more severe condemnationⓘ».
