XXVII domenica T.O. — anno C (Lc 17,5-10)
5
Orthodox ReadingAnd the apostles, the ones sent with halakhic mandate (the shlichim) said to the Lord: «Increase our faith-faithfulness, make us steadier in emunah».
6
Orthodox ReadingThen the Lord said: «If you had faith-faithfulness like a mustard seed — the most minuscule of seeds —, you would say to this mulberry: Be uprooted and be planted in the sea, and it would obey you, because authentic emunah is not measured by quantity but operates by its very nature».
72
Orthodox ReadingWhich of you, having a servant who plows or who tends the flock, when he comes back in from the field will say to him at once: Come to the table and make yourself at ease?
8
Greekἀλλ' οὐχὶ ἐρεῖ αὐτῷ· Ἑτοίμασον τί δειπνήσω καὶ περιζωσάμενος διακόνει μοι ἕως φάγω καὶ πίω, καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα φάγεσαι καὶ πίεσαι σύ;
Orthodox ReadingWill he not rather say to him: Prepare my supper and, having girded yourself, serve me — render me service until I have eaten and drunk, and after this you too will eat and drink?
9
Greekμὴ ἔχει χάριν τῷ δούλῳ ὅτι ἐποίησεν τὰ διαταχθέντα;
Orthodox ReadingDoes he perhaps have gratitude or an obligation of thanks toward that servant because he has carried out the things that had been commanded him?
10
Orthodox ReadingSo you too, when you have accomplished all the things that have been commanded you, say: Unprofitable servants we are, servants who have acquired no merit (zekhut); what we were bound to do — our obligation owed (ḥovah) we have done, without generating a credit toward God».
