GreekἜλεγεν οὖν τοῖς ἐκπορευομένοις ὄχλοις βαπτισθῆναι ὑπ' αὐτοῦ· Γεννήματα ἐχιδνῶν, τίς ὑπέδειξεν ὑμῖν φυγεῖν ἀπὸ τῆς μελλούσης ὀργῆς;
Orthodox ReadingHe said therefore to the crowdsⓘ who were coming out to be immersedⓘ by him: «Brood of vipersⓘ, who showed you how to flee from the wrath to comeⓘ?

Greekποιήσατε οὖν καρποὺς ἀξίους τῆς μετανοίας καὶ μὴ ἄρξησθε λέγειν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς· Πατέρα ἔχομεν τὸν Ἀβραάμ, λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι δύναται ὁ θεὸς ἐκ τῶν λίθων τούτων ἐγεῖραι τέκνα τῷ Ἀβραάμ.
Orthodox ReadingBear therefore fruits worthy of conversionⓘ, and do not begin to say within yourselvesⓘ: We have Abraham as fatherⓘ — for I tell youⓘ that Godⓘ is able, from these stonesⓘ, to raise up children to Abrahamⓘ.

Greekἤδη δὲ καὶ ἡ ἀξίνη πρὸς τὴν ῥίζαν τῶν δένδρων κεῖται· πᾶν οὖν δένδρον μὴ ποιοῦν καρπὸν καλὸν ἐκκόπτεται καὶ εἰς πῦρ βάλλεται.
