Πιλᾶτος δὲ συγκαλεσάμενος τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ τὸν λαὸν
Pilato, riuniti i capi dei sacerdoti, le autorità e il popolo,
Pilate, having summoned together the archiereis (the kohanim of the temple summit) archiereisⓘ, the authorities (the archontes) authoritiesⓘ and the people peopleⓘ,

εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Προσηνέγκατέ μοι τὸν ἄνθρωπον τοῦτον ὡς ἀποστρέφοντα τὸν λαόν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν ἀνακρίνας οὐθὲν εὗρον ἐν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τούτῳ αἴτιον ὧν κατηγορεῖτε κατ' αὐτοῦ.
disse loro: «Mi avete portato quest'uomo come agitatore del popolo. Ecco, io l'ho esaminato davanti a voi, ma non ho trovato in quest'uomo nessuna delle colpe di cui lo accusate;
said to them: «You brought me this man as one who leads the people astray; and behold, I, having examined him before you, found in this man nothing culpable regarding that of which you accuse him.

ἀλλ' οὐδὲ Ἡρῴδης, ἀνέπεμψεν γὰρ αὐτὸν πρὸς ἡμᾶς, καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐδὲν ἄξιον θανάτου ἐστὶν πεπραγμένον αὐτῷ.
e neanche Erode: infatti ce l'ha rimandato. Ecco, egli non ha fatto nulla che meriti la morte.
But neither did Herod Herodⓘ, for he sent him back to us; and behold, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.

παιδεύσας οὖν αὐτὸν ἀπολύσω.
Perciò, dopo averlo punito, lo rimetterò in libertà».
Therefore I will punish him punishⓘ and release him».

ἀνέκραγον δὲ παμπληθεὶ λέγοντες· Αἶρε τοῦτον, ἀπόλυσον δὲ ἡμῖν τὸν Βαραββᾶν·
Ma essi si misero a gridare tutti insieme: «Togli di mezzo costui! Rimettici in libertà Barabba!».
But they cried out all together saying: «Away with this man, and release Barabbas to us!» Barabbasⓘ

ὅστις ἦν διὰ στάσιν τινὰ γενομένην ἐν τῇ πόλει καὶ φόνον βληθεὶς ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ.
Questi era stato messo in prigione per una rivolta, scoppiata in città, e per omicidio.
— this man who, for an uprising (a stásis) uprisingⓘ that had taken place in the city and for a murder (a phónos) murderⓘ, had been thrown into prison.

πάλιν δὲ ὁ Πιλᾶτος προσεφώνησεν αὐτοῖς θέλων ἀπολῦσαι τὸν Ἰησοῦν.
Pilato parlò loro di nuovo, perché voleva rimettere in libertà Gesù.
Again therefore Pilate addressed them, wishing to release Jesus;

οἱ δὲ ἐπεφώνουν λέγοντες· Σταύρου σταύρου αὐτόν.
Ma essi urlavano: «Crocifiggilo! Crocifiggilo!».
but they kept shouting saying: «Crucify him, crucify him!» Crucify himⓘ

ὁ δὲ τρίτον εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Τί γὰρ κακὸν ἐποίησεν οὗτος; οὐδὲν αἴτιον θανάτου εὗρον ἐν αὐτῷ· παιδεύσας οὖν αὐτὸν ἀπολύσω.
Ed egli, per la terza volta, disse loro: «Ma che male ha fatto costui? Non ho trovato in lui nulla che meriti la morte. Dunque, lo punirò e lo rimetterò in libertà».
For the third time he said to them: «What evil, indeed, did this man do? I found in him nothing culpable worthy of death; therefore I will punish him and release him».

οἱ δὲ ἐπέκειντο φωναῖς μεγάλαις αἰτούμενοι αὐτὸν σταυρωθῆναι, καὶ κατίσχυον αἱ φωναὶ αὐτῶν.
Essi però insistevano a gran voce, chiedendo che venisse crocifisso, e le loro grida crescevano.
But they pressed on with loud voices, demanding that he be crucified be crucifiedⓘ, and their voices prevailed.

καὶ Πιλᾶτος ἐπέκρινεν γενέσθαι τὸ αἴτημα αὐτῶν·
Pilato allora decise che la loro richiesta venisse eseguita.
And Pilate pronounced sentence pronounced sentenceⓘ that their request be carried out;

ἀπέλυσεν δὲ τὸν διὰ στάσιν καὶ φόνον βεβλημένον εἰς φυλακὴν ὃν ᾐτοῦντο, τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν παρέδωκεν τῷ θελήματι αὐτῶν.
Rimise in libertà colui che era stato messo in prigione per rivolta e omicidio, e che essi richiedevano, e consegnò Gesù al loro volere.
and he released the one who for uprising and murder (stásis and phónos) had been thrown into prison, the one whom they were asking for, while Jesus he handed over handed overⓘ to their will.
