Greekεἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Προσηνέγκατέ μοι τὸν ἄνθρωπον τοῦτον ὡς ἀποστρέφοντα τὸν λαόν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν ἀνακρίνας οὐθὲν εὗρον ἐν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τούτῳ αἴτιον ὧν κατηγορεῖτε κατ' αὐτοῦ.
Orthodox Readingsaid to them: «You brought me this man as one who leads the people astray; and behold, I, having examined him before you, found in this man nothing culpable regarding that of which you accuse him.

Greekἀλλ' οὐδὲ Ἡρῴδης, ἀνέπεμψεν γὰρ αὐτὸν πρὸς ἡμᾶς, καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐδὲν ἄξιον θανάτου ἐστὶν πεπραγμένον αὐτῷ.
Orthodox ReadingBut neither did Herod Herodⓘ, for he sent him back to us; and behold, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.

Greekπαιδεύσας οὖν αὐτὸν ἀπολύσω.

Greekὅστις ἦν διὰ στάσιν τινὰ γενομένην ἐν τῇ πόλει καὶ φόνον βληθεὶς ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ.
Orthodox Reading— this man who, for an uprising (a stásis) uprisingⓘ that had taken place in the city and for a murder (a phónos) murderⓘ, had been thrown into prison.

Greekπάλιν δὲ ὁ Πιλᾶτος προσεφώνησεν αὐτοῖς θέλων ἀπολῦσαι τὸν Ἰησοῦν.
Orthodox ReadingAgain therefore Pilate addressed them, wishing to release Jesus;

Greekοἱ δὲ ἐπεφώνουν λέγοντες· Σταύρου σταύρου αὐτόν.

Greekὁ δὲ τρίτον εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Τί γὰρ κακὸν ἐποίησεν οὗτος; οὐδὲν αἴτιον θανάτου εὗρον ἐν αὐτῷ· παιδεύσας οὖν αὐτὸν ἀπολύσω.
Orthodox ReadingFor the third time he said to them: «What evil, indeed, did this man do? I found in him nothing culpable worthy of death; therefore I will punish him and release him».

Greekοἱ δὲ ἐπέκειντο φωναῖς μεγάλαις αἰτούμενοι αὐτὸν σταυρωθῆναι, καὶ κατίσχυον αἱ φωναὶ αὐτῶν.
Orthodox ReadingBut they pressed on with loud voices, demanding that he be crucified be crucifiedⓘ, and their voices prevailed.

Greekκαὶ Πιλᾶτος ἐπέκρινεν γενέσθαι τὸ αἴτημα αὐτῶν·

Greekἀπέλυσεν δὲ τὸν διὰ στάσιν καὶ φόνον βεβλημένον εἰς φυλακὴν ὃν ᾐτοῦντο, τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν παρέδωκεν τῷ θελήματι αὐτῶν.
Orthodox Readingand he released the one who for uprising and murder (stásis and phónos) had been thrown into prison, the one whom they were asking for, while Jesus he handed over handed overⓘ to their will.
