GreekΟἱ δὲ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτόν· Οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰωάννου νηστεύουσιν πυκνὰ καὶ δεήσεις ποιοῦνται, ὁμοίως καὶ οἱ τῶν Φαρισαίων, οἱ δὲ σοὶ ἐσθίουσιν καὶ πίνουσιν.
Orthodox ReadingThen they said to him: «The disciples disciplesⓘ of John often practice voluntary fasting (ta'anit) voluntary fastingⓘ and offer prayers of supplication (tachanunim) prayers of supplicationⓘ, and likewise also those of the Pharisees (perushim), the observant ones set apart for purity Phariseesⓘ; but yours eat and drink eat and drinkⓘ».

Greekὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Μὴ δύνασθε τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ νυμφῶνος ἐν ᾧ ὁ νυμφίος μετ' αὐτῶν ἐστιν ποιῆσαι νηστεύειν;

Greekἐλεύσονται δὲ ἡμέραι, καὶ ὅταν ἀπαρθῇ ἀπ' αὐτῶν ὁ νυμφίος, τότε νηστεύσουσιν ἐν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις.
Orthodox ReadingBut days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away taken awayⓘ from them, and then they will fast will fastⓘ in those days».

GreekἜλεγεν δὲ καὶ παραβολὴν πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὅτι Οὐδεὶς ἐπίβλημα ἀπὸ ἱματίου καινοῦ σχίσας ἐπιβάλλει ἐπὶ ἱμάτιον παλαιόν· εἰ δὲ μήγε, καὶ τὸ καινὸν σχίσει καὶ τῷ παλαιῷ οὐ συμφωνήσει τὸ ἐπίβλημα τὸ ἀπὸ τοῦ καινοῦ.
Orthodox ReadingHe also told them a mashal mashalⓘ, a similitude: «No one, having torn a patch from a new garment new garmentⓘ, puts it on an old garment; otherwise the new one will tear, and to the old the patch taken from the new will not match.

Greekκαὶ οὐδεὶς βάλλει οἶνον νέον εἰς ἀσκοὺς παλαιούς· εἰ δὲ μήγε, ῥήξει ὁ οἶνος ὁ νέος τοὺς ἀσκοὺς καὶ αὐτὸς ἐκχυθήσεται καὶ οἱ ἀσκοὶ ἀπολοῦνται·
Orthodox ReadingAnd no one puts new wine new wineⓘ, freshly fermented, into old wineskins old wineskinsⓘ already taut; otherwise the new wine will burst the wineskins, and it will be spilled and the wineskins will be ruined.
